Glad to hear it, but coming from 4 to 5 years of real trading and 1 year of paper trading or paper money trading, I have experienced both some of the high highs and low lows. First, treat it like learning a language, give yourself a year to learn the basics, like different kinds of orders, the vocabulary takes some time and a lot of it can mean the same thing. Long is Buy, Short is Sell is just one example. I would say grow a paper account from 1 K to 5 K in paper trading. Also, set your paper account to 1 or 2 K, not 200 k. If you take a 2 k loss in a 200 k account, are you going to care? NO, you still have 198 K, if you set paper money to 5 k and take a 2 K, you will feel it.
Journaling is import because, why are you buying this stock? and when are you going to sell it?Think of it like research. My best trades were and are still the best I researched. And how are you going to protect your profits?
One day it all came together for me about 1 year later. The orders, the risk, the candles, the patterns and also during that year invest as much money as you can on whatever broker you decide on. Buckle in and be prepared. Like the Boy Scouts.
My goal was 1000 in my account before I place any real trade and start small. You will see so many people and you tubers say buy this stock or sell this stock. Think about this for a second, let’s say you have 50000 followers and you say buy stock XXX let’s just say 10000 of you followers buy it. You already own it before you say “BUY, BUY, BUY like Cramer on CNBC. And of course the price goes up.
See, people, all people have bias, but that bias is probably not your bias.
BUT, did it follow your trade rules, or not? Why are you buying it?, how much of your portfolio did you risk? See, this is why you need to buckle in and play the “Long game”. Mirror Trading is fun until that one trade you take wipes out your account.
I remember, after my brother showed me some of his trades before I started and of course I thought. I will be at 10 K in no time. Trading is not a get rich thing until you know the following:
1. what kind of trader are you?
2. What do you like to trade?
3. Before moving to another asset, say Futures, go back to paper trading until you can be successful, depending on what you call success.
FINALLY. ABL, Always BE LEARNING.
