Hi living in Colombia as a Canadian.
I think people are confused on the rental yield as I am guessing the OP's country home is worth a big percentage of that $3 million in assets. Either way OP make sure those other properties are getting at least 5-6% rental yield which is standard minimum in Colombia.
I agree with you you are definitely overleveraged in Colombian real estate. Especially if you are planning on building your future in Canada. I would probably look at selling the few properties that are the biggest hassle. Then make sure you max out RRSP's and put the rest into equities and GIC's.

There are also CIT's in Colombia that earn a good percent income. A good chunk of that income should be lost in long term currency depreciation, still might be worth it though.

In terms of currency transactions, maybe Alianza Valores will do it. Ironically casa de cambios here often offer better than spot rates so you could bit by bit move it over that way as well. Not sure anywhere in Canada that will do it without taking out a big chunk.
