RIP to my friends that have Telus stock in their compensation even though they work in the telco or health side of things… but have also been there 12-15 years.
But it may be an opportunity to get a generally diversified stock at a non-bubble valuation.
Shopify is negative over 5 years, so take that as you will.
Copper - Rio Tinto I up like 30% or something over the short term. So be careful that freight train may have already left.
We’re not small on Aerospace here in Canada, either. Those are more military / communications / travel sectors. Planes, rockets, rocket launch pads, satellites, satellite communications, armoured personnel carriers, ships (including ice breakers for the Northern Passage), tugs for guiding / captaining ships in and out of difficult passages (think Churchill, Kitimat). We’re planning on doubling our power grid over the next 10 years - that’s a LOT of copper. Pipeline from Alberta to BC = steel, oil producers, 5 large LNG plants making us one of the biggest LNG suppliers from I think 5 of the 10 largest facilities by 2040 in the world… and who knows if Smith/Moe/Ford can bully Kinew into a pipeline going east tp Central Canada. That’d be a lot more steel, some forestry work to be done, etc.
We’re not only 100# in on data centres. And our data centres aren’t so much about displacing workers as much as they’re about keep our data in Canada, like your medical files, imaging data from MRIs and CAT scans and mammograms… and then augmenting the government to get wait times for everything down - taxes processed in minutes not weeks, forms submitted being processed in days not weeks, applications getting done in weeks not months or years.
