Canadians should be buying more oil stocks. It’s that simple. The numbers are very similar for many sectors like rail or pipelines.
Not sure what you mean by this statement “So the royalty is not going to CAN institutions.” Royalties go to the province.

Something that surprised me when I dug into this, Canada’s oil supply chain has 5 stages - extraction, upgrading, transportation, refining, and end-product sales. Canada wins at the first two but refining where the highest margins live, happens mostly in the US.
Suncor is 70% US institutionally owned, and Cenovus’s largest single shareholder is CK Hutchison Holdings in Hong Kong. So the royalty is not going to CAN institutions.
Curious what people here think - does the pipeline change anything about how you are positioning your portfolio ?
