Actually that is a bad comparison. We had one of the top two makers of GPUs in the world - ATI. They were based in Markham, ON. In 2006 they were bought by AMD which primarily made CPUs. They are now integrated into AMD's business.
But I don't know that they manufactured in Canada. They were more of a designer than a manufacturer. Just like Nvidia doesn't make their own chips, they are made by foundries like TSMC.
