>At RBC, I had a large sum payout due to a car accident as a child with the majority in chequing. From 18 - 23, they told me I was doing great and went I asked about investing - those were the only options they gave me
Former RBC employee here. That sounds about right.
I was just a pedestrian account manager, but I actually cared about my clients and their needs. I didn't push anything that wasn't needed. I was the only one in the branch that had been invited to clients' houses to have dinner with them.
And what did that level of client dedication get me? A "non performing" status on my annual review.
After getting that review, I said to my ABM "when you look at what I do here...what I do for my clients...can you honestly say I don't do my job? Because that's what "non-performing" means". His silence said everything I needed to hear...and I was out of there not long after.
You had to be pushy AF if you wanted to even get a sniff of hitting whatever moving goalposts they had as incentives. When I was there, they came up with "the perfect financial review"...which sounds all nice and fancy on the surface, but it was just an internal program that tried to force us to keep clients in our offices for a full hour....REGARDLESS of what the appointment was for, and also regardless of what their needs were, and try to sell them every product possible.
