Tbh I know past performance doesnt guarantee future results and copy trading is stupid risky. but back in early 2025 I was lurking here feeling totally priced out. my brain just shuts off looking at TA charts so I decided to run an experiment with $300 to see if copy trading actually works for retail or if its just a trap to liquidate noobs.
I needed a platform that let me do micro allocations without making me upload my passport just to play with a few hundred bucks. ended up using BYDFi mainly cause they let you start with 10 bucks per trader. (also used their demo account for a week first so I didn't fat finger my real deposit).
spent like two weeks just staring at the leaderboards. didnt pick the highest APY guys cause thats usually massive survivorship bias.
my rules:
\- win rate > 60%
\- max drawdown < 30% (anything higher means they refuse to use stop losses and hold heavy bags)
\- 3+ months of transparent history
\- mid-range copier counts so slippage wouldn't kill me
split the 300 across 3 totally different traders. 150 on a boring BTC/ETH guy, 100 on an altcoin swing trader, and 50 on an aggressive scalper that I basically treated as a lotto ticket.
the data (early 2025 to Jan 2026)
months 1-3: slow and painful. net up about 80 bucks. btc guy was consistent but agonizingly slow. the scalper blew up almost instantly. down 20 in the first week and I manually cut the connection before he drained the rest. first lesson: scalpers revenge trade to keep their rankings up. avoid them.
months 4-6: altcoin guy caught a crazy SOL move. my 100 turned into 340.
months 7-9: took profits and reallocated 600 across 4 traders. had to drop two of them pretty fast. they started taking reckless over-leveraged positions in choppy markets to farm follower fees. if you dont babysit them they WILL wreck your account.
months 10-14: bull market definitely carried the water here. I'm no genius, rising tide lifts all boats. but the guys I followed actually used risk management and took profits when greed peaked. portfolio crossed 5k in jan 2026 and has hovered around there since.
what I actually learned:
1. copy trading is NOT passive income. set it and forget it = liquidated. monitor them like employees and fire them the second they stray from their strategy.
2. diversification is mandatory.
3. start micro. if I put in 1k from the start, the scalper's early losses would have made me panic sell everything. I needed those first few months of micro stakes to learn without emotions.
not financial advice obviously. just wanted to share the reality behind a small account test. has anyone else tracked their long term copy trading stats? curious if my survival is an outlier or if others managed to avoid the liquidation cascades.

the 48 hour pump after selling is a specific kind of pain that never gets easier, sold SOL last year to cover rent and watched it run 20% two days later, technically made the right call but it still stings every time

Yeah hardware costs are no joke. If centralization gets worse, moving funds to other chains is easy with [Flake.exchange](http://Flake.exchange) SOL to Ethereum in one go, no sketchy bridges. Just something to keep in mind.

As a crypto enthusiast, I fully understand your frustration. MEXC and other exchanges issue a lot of low quality new coins every day, which does suck money out of real projects, and I agree with that part
In my opinion, many quality projects have shown significant growth over the past few years: SOL rose from about $0.22 in 2020 to nearly $295 in early 2025 (more than 1,000 times), XRP has also doubled multiple times in multiple cycles, and the entire crypto market cap has grown from about $250 billion in 2020 to more than $2.3 trillion currently, far from "barely growing at all." I believe that there is a casino component and noise in the market, but by rigorously screening projects with real teams and adoption, there are substantial returns to be made in holding for the long term

Four questions, four solid answers from experience:
\*\*On DSR vs Monte Carlo:\*\* Do both. DSR is the theoretically correct deflation but it requires you to know the distribution of Sharpe under null. Monte Carlo bootstrapping with net-per-trade values is more practically robust and gives you a P(ruin) number people actually understand. They're complementary, not alternatives.
\*\*On non-generalization across assets:\*\* This is normal and should be expected for intraday crypto. Oscillator confluence is fundamentally fitting to the liquidity profile and volatility structure of a specific instrument. BTC at 15m is a different beast than ETH or SOL. Accepting asset-specificity and running separate parameter sets per asset is the pragmatic choice. The alternative (finding a universally generalizable strategy) is harder and might mean moving to multi-timeframe momentum which tends to generalize better but with lower Sharpe.
\*\*On regime detection without overfitting:\*\* Use out-of-sample regime labels. Don't fit the regime detector on the same data you're trading. Use VIX, correlation across assets, and realized vol percentile as exogenous regime signals — things you can't overfit to your specific trade history. HMM trained on your P&L will almost certainly overfit; HMM trained on market-wide volatility structure won't.
\*\*On backtester speed:\*\* Numba will give you 50-100x speedup for the inner loop with minimal code change. Key insight: you don't need to vectorize the entire logic. Just JIT-compile the innermost hot path (your entry/exit state machine). Use \`@numba.njit\` with explicit state tracking as scalar variables.

Best ways to burn tokens (and close token accounts to reclaim SOL) on Solana.
1. SolDevHub.com - Easily enter number of tokens to burn and burn it immediately. (SolDevHub is mainly for creating and managing tokens but the burn tool works perfectly fine)
2. Incinerator.fun - Website specifically to burn tokens. Has two options on to the top. Token Burner to enter an amount and burn (for developers). Another option (Claim) used to burn and close token accounts to reclaim SOL rent (for users and traders). Easy to use UX.
3. Sol-Incinerator.com - Only allows burning and closing token accounts to reclaim SOL. Best for people new to Solana as the default “Fun Mode” only lets you close empty token accounts.
Other websites like Sol-cleaner, claimyoursol, etc… exist but the mentioned top three are the best.

For me it was when crypto stopped feeling like constant clicking and worrying about networks or fees. Sending SOL and seeing it arrive almost instantly was one of those moments where it finally felt simple, and honestly just letting BTC earn passive yield on CoinDepo after setup gave me the same feeling, set it once and it just works in the background. When you don’t have to overthink every step, that’s when crypto finally feels usable.

Yeah Solana is great on the tech side, but adoption usually comes down to habits, regulation, and how easy it is for normal users to onboard. Most people still stick with familiar tools like banks or apps because crypto, even when fast, still involves wallets, keys, and a bit of friction. Personally I don’t use SOL much for payments, I mostly just hold BTC and keep a small portion on platforms like CoinDepo earning yield so I’m not constantly moving funds around, which kind of highlights the gap between good tech and real everyday usage.

16 hr ago • u/TonyBoyleOnline • r/solana • best_way_to_stake_sol_without_overcomplicating • C
It's actually really simple. The native wallet apps (solflare, phantom etc...) have easy ways to assign your SOL to validators for staking. Only takes a few clicks.
Be warned it takes about 2 days to stake and unstake to validators so if there's a massive news event or sell off you do have this wait period before your SOL becomes active in your wallet again.
There's also liquid staking tokens (LST) such as HSOL you could swap to, these values inflate with close to the same percentage as validator staking but allow you to swap in and out of the tokens without the epoc unstaking delay from the validator.
I personally stake to validators.
HSOL read up to see if LST is right for you.

There is also other solana LST tokens you can research and lookup too.

Was trying to move some ETH over to SOL and stumbled onto deBridge. Pretty much avoids the whole wrapping and liquidity mess by using native assets. The transfer was quick, think it was instant even? No security hiccups either, which was a relief.

one more tip for today:
OPEN INTEREST STATUS ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
├ BTC OI: 90,146 BTC (+0.95% 24h) — Stable, slight increase
├ ETH OI: 2.14M ETH (-6.65% 24h) — Speculative positions being closed
├ SOL OI: 9.96M SOL (+7.23% 24h) — OI rising but liquidations also high
└ Note: SOL's rising OI + high long liquidations = new speculators entering while old longs are getting wiped out. Dangerous mix.
