Fellow CPA here. I run into this insatiable desire to reduce current taxes a lot from people who are still in the 24% bracket, and likely to stay there, a lot. A MFJ couple earning up to ~$475k combined can still be in the 24% bracket after max 401k/457, deductible insurance premiums, and the standard deduction. Since the 22% bracket starts at about $100k of taxable income, there’s really no long-term projected savings for STR or REP depreciation deductions unless you’re currently in the 35% or 37% bracket. $70k is a lot to pay in federal income taxes, but it doesn’t mean you’re in a high tax bracket.
