My initial foray into DOT was on the belief of a highly secure layer one chain that offered bridges to all other chains with the call sign interoperability. Interoperability amongst cousins is not what I imagined.

I'd heavily recommend you to not hold (especially smaller) altcoins a whole cycle long. Remember that almost every currently relevant altcoin pretty much dies during a bear market. You can compare it yourself if you want. Make a list of the hottest coins in 2021 you can remember and see how they're doing now. Let me name a few: POL (MATIC), ATOM, DOT, VET, SHIB, MANA, LUNA (lol), UNI, IOTA, ALGO, AXS etc etc. The list is truly endless.
What im trying to say is that you have very good odds of being stuck in an unnecessarily bad situation - you drop 95%, range around down there for years and practically die off. Besides, if you couldn't get yourself to sell at least a portion of your position at new all time highs, you're likely never going to sell. The kind of returns you're expecting mostly happen in the deep end of the bear market - this is where you buy for those gains, not during a correction 2 years into the bull market. So unless you bought them much earlier, or you really really know what you're doing (sorry if you do :D), you're being way too greedy here and i hope you can start to understand this. I'm glad that you're diversified in other assets at least but your handling of crypto (from what ive heard so far), is incredibly unrealistic
Your altcoin very likely won't return to new all time highs "if you just hold until the next cycle", odds are (again) extremely high that its never gonna get even close ever again. There are exceptions, like there always are, but have fun catching those in the endless sea of bullshit. So far you only had XRP, SOL, BNB and ZEC recently so uhhhh not really a whole lot to say the least. Altcoins are not made for the long-term for those reasons, they just aren't. You have to time them really well and also be ready to sell them during the same cycle. But holding them through a whole bear market is not going to end well. Consider cutting your losses on the smaller cap altcoins, since that market is very short-lived. New ones will appear and make those 500%, 1000% gains you mentioned but the older ones who already existed a whole cycle long very very likely aren't gonna be relevant in the next one. Again check out the examples from 2021 i mentioned. Hope that makes sense :)

Pretty much this and I've been emphasising for the past years. Last bull I was fortunate enough to grab amass a considerable amount of tokens on ICOs and on their first months (mainly AVAX and DOT), realize profit when they went up, sold to get my initial investment and left the rest staking. Right now I have zero psychological pressure, I depend on my salary, occasionally DCA and don't see a reason to sell.
But I know a lot of people who "fell in love" with their bags, didn't sold and had to sell on massive losses.

Definitely the most valid reason to still hold DOT

Do people just have short term memory loss or something and forget everything is up super massively since a few years ago, not even covid time? Or are people's investing times like, 1 month tops?
ETH was range bound for over a year at $1-1.5k. BTC sat between 15-25k.
