Bitcore is a Bitcoin fork designed to optimize for cheap transaction fees, on-chain scalability, and a reliable direct payments network. Bitcore forked from Bitcoin at block 492,820 on November 2, 2017. Bitcore uses the same Proof-of-Work consensus algorithm as Bitcoin and supports Segregated Witness, which it implemented earlier than Bitcoin. Bitcore adds new blocks on average every 2.5 minutes and supports 10 MB block sizes, which can process approximatively 310 transactions per second, according to the white paper.
