Based on what I have researched and experienced, BTC is not 100% secure. The threat of hackers will likely contribute to the future value of this asset. But what do I know? Not much. I didn't think BTC would actually pass $100k so I was wrong about that.

BTC X10 SPY 0DTE 748/753CCS @.45(+.02). It kept getting tested so closed it at break even. Looks like it would've been fine but who knows what happens into close.

Buy BTC, hold for at least four years, and stop chasing the next 100x coin. Most people would do better with that simple strategy than by trying to outsmart the market. Crypto investing doesn't need to be nearly as complicated as people make it.

Coinmarkercap is just for price checking, anyone who had BTC that early has it in.a wallet not in some shady app or website, since most from that time are dead, unless your father has the keys to the BTC wallet he has nothing

I ported my bitcoin into 3x DRAM and within 2 hours of market open already open 12%. That's 13 months worth of BTC gains at least.

What you’re contemplating for next time is sort of what happened to me this time. I started selling at last cycle’s ATH on the way up this time.
I don’t totally regret it. I felt like I needed to rebalance. The stock market, which I bought into with the proceeds, has done well.
I also got to indulge in getting to spend some of the proceeds on things I wanted. That speaks to my individual time preference.
What you’re feeling might be a legitimate gauge of what your risk tolerance is, what you think a fair price for BTC is, and what your time preference is.
But I would say with Bitcoin dropping pretty much back to the levels I sold at I have been itching to buy it back.

Probably but I'm not sure. Just be careful who you deal with, what you sign, what keys you hand over, what wallet addresses you pass around, and if making a transfer always try with small amounts first, etc.
That app is probably just a tracker like you say, where you manually enter your portfolio info in to track it, similar to coinmarketcap.com.
You'd have to find out from your dad if he has any other info about a wallet or an exchange or something that he acquired BTC from. Does he have bank records going back that far showing a withdrawal? Credit card statement from that time, etc.? "Who" is calling him to tell him to move money, etc.? Does he have emails from his friend back then?
