The BlackRock prospectus language is the most interesting part. In prior forks, the "fork coin dump" happened because retail holders claimed forked coins and immediately sold. BlackRock says they won't claim or credit forked coins, which means that supply is effectively dead weight — it never enters the market from the largest holder.
The flip side: this also means institutional Bitcoin holders have essentially zero economic stake in the forked chain's success. Any fork has to bootstrap its own legitimacy without participation from the biggest BTC holders, which is a very different starting point than BCH had in 2017.
The bigger governance question is the uncomfortable one: when BlackRock's prospectus can functionally determine which Bitcoin fork is "real Bitcoin" for the largest slice of BTC exposure, the decentralization argument gets complicated. The ETF wrapper has introduced a de facto authority over consensus outcomes that wasn't there before.

Yeh, you can't trust fiat, or government. The same government who regulates and runs the powergrid and Internet required for your little string of numbers to be even in existence. The same government who guarantees the dollar will be accepted and used for trade all around the world. And everyone is comfortable with that, except many of you BTC conspiracy theorists, who on one hand say you don't trust the government, but rely on that same government to ensure your failing ponzi scheme continues to run. Keeping your LTV under 30% is probably the biggest thing. That gives you a lot more room if the market gets volatile. I’ve also seen Figure Markets come up for BTC backed loans if you’re comparing options. I think the platform matters less than understanding the liquidation rules and only borrowing an amount you’re comfortable carrying.

wtf…how many people keep gold or silver or cash under their pillow? If self custody was the only use case, how many people and banks and such would do that? And how much do you think BTC would be worth? $20 bucks?

One thing I've noticed about crypto traders is that many people who are comfortable trading BTC, ETH, and perpetuals rarely touch traditional equities.
It's not necessarily because they don't care about stocks. A lot of traders follow companies like Nvidia, Tesla, Amazon, and others closely. The bigger issue is that the experience feels completely different.
Crypto traders are used to markets being available all the time, being able to take long or short positions easily, and managing everything from one place. Traditional equities still require a different workflow with brokers, market hours, and additional restrictions.
That's why tokenized equities are an interesting development.
I've been looking into onchain equity platforms recently, including Canborsa, and the idea is interesting because it brings stock exposure into an environment that feels more familiar to crypto users.
The bigger opportunity isn't just trading a token that represents a stock. It's the possibility that equities eventually become part of the same ecosystem as other digital assets, with more flexible settlement and integration with onchain applications.
There are obviously still challenges around regulation, liquidity, and adoption. The infrastructure has to mature before this becomes mainstream.
