Isn't the high inflation rate just a psychological hook to get people to buy more AVAX and stake it? I feel like this is the norm for most major proof of stake blockchains, except for Ethereum, which has a relatively low inflation rate.

that's fine, i dont want to take charge of the policy, but ill make suggestions and happiily change my mind. also, validators shouldn't expect to have (relatively) high rewards forever (from AVAX).

That being said I broke down the numbers and it's pretty clear this is the best way to scale the network and token usage. Focus on L1s/apps that are distributing value to their validators.

Validators are not everyone though. They are people who are willing to put at least 2k AVAX aside for the purpose and who also have to ensure their validator is secure, consistently active, has all updates, etc… so while not incredibly active it is still not a passive pursuit.
So this would be more equivalent to a program requiring a minimum of $32k (using current AVAX price rounded to the dollar), and active monitoring to achieve a 6% rate. The current 10-year bond rate is 4.1% so you are basically getting slightly higher APR and a shorter maturity period in exchange as a validator…. But you are also taking the risk of an altcoin vs a U.S. treasury bond and I’d argue that the risk premium on that is worth way more than 2%.
Moving to the concept of L1s and apps paying validators, this just shifts the pain to the customer base. AVAX strategy as best as I can decipher is to be the most attractive solution for L1 needs to build the Avalanche ecosystem into something much larger. It is the classic concept of running at a lower margin to capture market share. Shifting the burden of incentivization to L1s would clash with that strategy and reduce the competitive advantage that is bringing partners onboard.
Call me crazy but I’d prefer less short term price action in exchange for quietly building market dominance.
If you think more validators are needed there needs to be an incentive to run validators. Last I checked the annual difference between operating a validator and just delegating 2k AVAX was around 16 AVAX a year. Using current prices that is $256…. I’ll gladly take that small loss to be able to delegate stress free. Reality is that there would be far more validators but the rewards are not worth it as is. Further slashing validator awards would drive even more people out and crush decentralization.

When the next generation is ready for crypto (DeFi), I see massive PR campaigns for that era. Give it five years, this will self ignite even without PR. Then comes VISA, MasterCard, FIFA along with campaign money. This will consume the market. It's our job, u and I, getting this on everybodys lips for now. But then again, I'm hardcore AVAX fan. Stake it and bake it. Then get your AvaxCard for the future. Best of luck🍀

Most ppl don't do research. Most ppl don't know AVAX. Imo AVAX' doing everything right. This will self ignite even without the massive PR. And when the masses are ready for decentralised finance (DeFi) - crypto - Avalanche (AVAX) will kick off their PR campaigns with VISA, FIFA, MasterCard and who knows what in the meantime.

I thought there were still hundreds of millions of unreleased AVAX tokens still? So the burn, while deflationary, would be more than offset by future token releases. Can anybody confirm factually?

I had made good gains with BTC and SOL as well plus ETH but I had too much invested in shitcoins not knowing they'd end up being shitcoins and that their prices would go down the shitter in the middle of the bull run

Well I'm basing it on the current market numbers. If you got in in mass when the numbers were well below 9, 60-100 is huge but you'd have to had to risk tens of thousands of dollars to get a good sizeable amount.
If someone was willing to drop 50-100k in AVAX alone, don't think they're life is much altered all things considered (minus degens of course).
Friendly advice, make sure you always take some profit. Don't hold stuff thinking you're going to moonshot an entire bag. You're already ahead of the game by being an investor at 19, if you make sure to take every small win now, you'll be ahead of many.
