As we all know, interview season is approaching so I wanted to get a take on my preparation schema.
For background, I’m a math and data science major. I am a sophomore so my main goals include landing spring weeks/ insight days at some firms for this year.
My preparation spans three domains:
1. probability and mathematical reasoning including but not limited to combinatorics, mental math, basic markov chains, martingales, etc. for resources, I use Tradermath and mainly QuantProf which has some very underrated questions.
2. Leetcode - Mainly for SWE related roles but also might help on the dev side which I am not mainly targeting but would also be an option in case QT or QR isn’t possible. I am trying to breeze through Strivers A2Z and follow it up with some system design and OS prep
3. Statistics and ML - mainly introductory since I have little background in the same but eager to learn. For stats, I mainly read the book ‘All of Statistics’. For ML/DL knowledge, Andrew Ng’s coursework is what I’m following.
For supplementary project work, I am working through Akuna’s Options 101 course and basic trading skills to understand basic MM.
Being a sophomore, I think I am still not at all close to the bar needed to be a quant but I am willing to learn and try. Some general tips on how to prep and changed I can make to my schema would be highly appreciated.
Can I supplement my prep with more resources?
Should I drop some stuff for now and push it to later in order to prioritise probability prep?
Are there any changes I would benefit from? I would really appreciate some comments or suggestions from people who have already done this or are going to do it in future.
