Lost $700 holding on to VIXY for months. That was a lot of money for me at the time, about 70% of my portfolio, since it was just a handful of months after I graduated college. I was convinced that the market would experience some volatility eventually and I would sell when it popped.
Three lessons:
1. Timing matters, a lot
2. Don't invest what I can't lose (and if I feel an emotion about the idea of losing the investment, then it's a bad investment)
3. The most important one: boring but Bogle works for a reason
