>50% of their entire market was just Samsung and SK Hynix. Two stocks. That's it.
Well yeah, those two companies run half of the country. They're in everything from electronics to healthcare to education and beyond. They are massive massive companies within South Korea. I don't think it's remotely comparable to the American market situation.

NVDA and AVGO doing the heavy lifting and preventing this from being very ugly
>That goes for those dumbass Koreans - 50% of their entire stock market index is 2 stocks: Sandisk and Samsung - Get fuk't you degenerates
u/Samjabr showing off his level of knowledge. Doesn't know the difference between SK Hynix and Sandisk. Doesn't understand the role popular ETFs like DRAM play in contributing to the concentration risk. Absolute moron.

DJT is ruining my DXY devaluation trade which was doing so well. High crude oil leads to a stronger DXY.Ā
A stronger DXY is kryptonite for Gold.Ā
High crude oil prices are kryptonite for Japanese & South Korean stocks.
Luckily Google, Amazon, Microsoft & Meta haven’t stopped sending most of their FCF to Samsung, TSM, SK & Kioxia so the AI cap ex hyperspenders Ā are paying for support for world ex US stocks.

KEMX and XCEM. South Korea doesn't have a lot of great stocks other than SK Hynix and Samsung. DRAM is too specialized and therefore volatile. An emerging markets ETF will pick up what else is good in South Korea as well as give you a broad swath of other up and coming markets with more diversification.

Except for MU, the top 10 in SP are nothing like SK Hynix and Samsung though. SK and Samsung were pure semi plays, the Mag7 isn't.
You know what, I'm not even going to bother discussing this

Alright degenerates, gather round.
Korea just showed us what the endgame looks like and it ain't pretty. 1.2 million accounts margin called in a week. 350K liquidated to zero. 62% of those were millennials and zoomers. Their market dropped 10% in ONE DAY because someone said "hey maybe AI spending slows down." 50% of their entire market was just Samsung and SK Hynix. Two stocks. That's it.
Now look at us. 34% of the S&P is in 10 companies and they're all making the exact same bet that AI capex goes up forever. NVDA, MSFT, GOOG, META, AMZN - basically running the same play Korea just fumbled. Half this sub is gonna say "bro it's different here, the Fed prints, 401Ks buy every dip, we're the reserve currency, AI actually works."
The other half is gonna say leverage at ATH + concentration at ATH = we're about to get our cheeks clapped harder than '08. I genuinely don't know who's right. What I do know is some Korean Warren Buffett was probably sitting there with 600% margin on 3x leveraged ETFs telling himself "this time it's different" right before his account got sent to the shadow realm.
So real talk - if NVDA or GOOG miss guidance by like 2% next earnings, do we get the same cascade? Or do institutions just vacuum up every share before we can even panic sell at the bottom like we always do?
Position: Sitting on cash like a coward.
What's everyone's play here? Buying the dip or hedging?

EWY has half the holdings of FLKR, which means you will get more SK hynix and Samsung with EWY, and explains why EWY has done better the past year.
Your decision should come down to whether you want a bit more of the big 2 or a bit less. I would pick EWY because I can't see a reason to seek out investing in the KOSPI if I thought the big 2 would underperform the rest.

The recent crash of kospi looks like a great time to invest since there no change in fundamentals. Looking forward to the july 29 SK Hynix earnings! I saw ewy and flkr tickers which track kospi. However flkr has much lower volume than ewy. What is the better etf and why?

SK Hynix bought Intel's memory business and its China fab for $9 billion in 2021. It's not like the two companies do not have a history, and it would make sense to join an already established fabrication facility than to start from the ground up. They're probably under great pressure by Trump and Lutnick to onshore some of their manufacturing to the U.S. and a joint venture to operate on the Ohio campus is the most likely scenario.

The 70% Q1 margins on SK Hynix look impressive, but the real moat isn't just capacity ramp: it's packaging yield. Hynix holds an 80% yield rate using Mass Reflow Molded Underfill (MR-MUF), while competitors like Micron struggle around 60% with Thermal Compression Non-Conductive Film (TC-NCF). That 20% yield gap creates a massive cost floor advantage per wafer stack. Once memory pricing normalizes and capacity ramps catch up, those packaging yield differentials will dictate who maintains margins versus who sees FCF collapse back down to commodity levels.

Everyone is expecting Semis to rise if Google announces an increase in AI cap ex during earnings tonight and Semis to fall if Google announces a cut to AI cap ex.
I tend to think when everyone is expecting the same outcome sometimes it's best to stay clear of the entire trade and wait for the dust to settle before I buy more.
I worry that there's a possibility that the trade might just be to sell both the Mag 7 AI cap ex hyperspenders & the $SOXX stocks after Google's earnings.
I'm still long semis as $VXUS, $EWJ, and $VPL are some of my largest holdings & all outperformed the $SPY due to their exposure to SK, Samsung, ASML, and Kioxia. But I sold my positions in $SKHY and $TSM at close yesterday and I am more interested in BTD in gold & silver right now to diversify away from this overcrowded trade.

Everyone talking about a Korean stock market crash and margin calls but if you look at the chart of Samsung or SK Hynix they're still up 100% and 200% YTD and up 300% and 600% in 1 year. Like...... and that's affecting our market? Imagine what will happen if we get an ACTUAL crash
