If you're not using a third party tool to validate that the rolls of the dice you threw do in fact result in the seed that ColdCard gave you, then you have no idea whether or not ColdCard actually used your dice rolls to generate the seed phrase. This is what you're not understanding. ColdCard could very well be not using your dice rolls and providing you with a low entropy seed phrase or truncating the dice roll input, etc. You have no way of knowing unless you use a third-party tool to validate what ColdCard is showing you.
ColdCard's OWN website and instructions on this even state that very fact. It is why they instruct you, if you don't want to trust ColdCard, that you need to go through that entire process. If you're not doing this, then you're blindly trusting ColdCard and its output.
I'm not demonizing ColdCard. I even stated in my previous post that ColdCard has many great features. I've used several over the years. Its dice roll feature is also really great. It is just that it trades security for convenience and security at the end of the day is a balance between convenience and security. If you want to trust coldcard with your dice rolls, it is a great feature, but you DO need to trust it (unless you validate the process with another tool).
My point was simply in criticism of your original statement that said that ColdCard was the only wallet that allowed you to perform dice rolls in a trustless manner, which is factually not true. The convenience of ONLY using the ColdCard here comes the need to trust the ColdCard.
You can just as easily roll dice mapped directly to the BIP-39 word list (rather than inputted as entropy) and import those 23 words into most HWW's and let the wallet calculate the 24th checksum word and be trustless with dice just as easily with any HWW.
I'm not sure what else more there is to say. I had a discussion on this very subject with Waxwing the other day where we were in agreement on this fact.
