I really should had added this to the post
I am in my early 20s and I am fine with a bit of complexity if it boosts expected returns in a 35-50 year horizon. I don’t plan retiring until my late 50s at the bare bare minimum.
I enjoy idea of factor investing with a decent allocation dedicated to a core.
Reason for each holding
DFUS - Core US holding (wanting a VTI but without the drawbacks of index investing, I also find DFA to be very a very HQ company)
AVUV - US value factor + Small cap factor. Once again don’t care about the increased standard deviation if expected returns on my time horizon are increased systematically
SPMO - To counteract the value factor I wanted some momentum. SPMO hits that with large caps.
XMMO - I was debating between 4 funds here: XMMO, XMVM, XSMO, XSVM. I didn’t choose XMMO because it performed the best I chose it because my mid cap
exposure was quite weak and I didn’t have a factor hitting it at all for US equities. i was between this and XMVM. Felt like a coin toss
AVNM - Instead of just going with DFA with their VXUS akin etf (DFAX) I went with a more value factor focused etf with avantis. I really wanted to lean into a more value factor focused allocation in Non US.
AVDV - Similar reasons for AVNM and AVUV. Simply just a small cap value etf that I really like. I was between DISV and AVDV. Once again can’t really go wrong with either.
