CoinShares adds Zcash to its physical ETP range
CoinShares has announced the launch of the CoinShares Zcash ETP (Ticker: ZCSH, ISIN: GB00BNRRG954), the latest addition to the CoinShares Physical range.
The product is 100 per cent physically backed by ZEC, the native token of the Zcash network, and lists on Euronext Paris, trading in EUR.
The firm writes that Zcash is one of the most established projects in digital assets, with a market capitalisation above USD20 billion and a history that reaches back to 2016.
“Its value proposition draws directly on crypto’s original values: sound money, and the ability of individuals to control their own financial privacy. Yet ZEC is not available everywhere, and remains thinly distributed relative to its size — absent from many mainstream platforms, with narrower custody support than most assets of comparable standing.
“The CoinShares Zcash ETP closes that distribution gap. Investors buy and sell a security on a regulated exchange, through the brokerage accounts they already use. The underlying ZEC is held in institutional custody, with no wallets or private keys to manage.
“Zcash is a layer-1 blockchain launched in October 2016 as a fork of the bitcoin codebase. It keeps bitcoin’s monetary design — a hard cap of 21 million coins, proof of work, halving roughly every four years — and adds the ability to transact privately.
“Privacy on Zcash is a choice, not a default. Transactions are transparent unless a user opts to shield them, using zero-knowledge proofs — a mechanism that lets the network confirm a transaction is valid without seeing its contents. Holders can also grant viewing keys, allowing an auditor or authority to inspect specific transactions without anything being published on-chain. That combination — sound-money design, optional privacy, built-in auditability — is what distinguishes Zcash within the sector, and it is why financial privacy has become one of the most actively debated themes among digital asset investors this year.”
A guide to Zcash, covering how shielded transactions work and the asset’s regulatory treatment, is available in the CoinShares Research knowledge section.
Jean-Marie Mognetti, Co-Founder, President and Chief Executive Officer of CoinShares, says: “Privacy is one of the oldest requirements in finance, and one of the hardest to engineer on a public blockchain. Zcash has been working on that problem since 2016. Our role has not changed since 2013: when investors want exposure to an asset, we build the regulated route to it. ZCSH is that route for ZEC — one security, one ticker, on an exchange investors already use.”
