What’s the News?
Kirloskar Oil Engines announced its unaudited Q2 FY27 financial results for the quarter ended September 30, 2026, on November 4, 2026. The company reported consolidated revenue from operations of Rs. 2,284 crore, registering 17% year-on-year growth compared with Rs. 1,951 crore in Q2 FY26. The quarter marked the company's highest-ever consolidated quarterly revenue, crossing the Rs. 2,000 crore milestone for the first time.
However, higher commodity costs and operating expenses affected profitability. Consolidated EBITDA declined 11.7% to approximately Rs. 338 crore from Rs. 382 crore, while the EBITDA margin contracted to 14.8% from 19.6%. Net profit from continuing operations declined approximately 18% to Rs. 130.3 crore from Rs. 159.2 crore in the year-ago quarter.
Financial Performance
Looking at the quarterly results of Kirloskar Oil Engines Limited, the company reported consolidated revenue from operations of Rs. 2,284 crore in Q2 FY27, compared with Rs. 1,950.6 crore in Q2 FY26, marking an increase of approximately 17% year-on-year. On a sequential basis, revenue increased 14.2% from Rs. 1,999.5 crore in Q1 FY27.
The company's consolidated net profit from continuing operations declined approximately 18% to Rs. 130.3 crore in Q2 FY27, compared with Rs. 159.2 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. On a quarter-on-quarter basis, net profit increased 17.3% from Rs. 111.1 crore in Q1 FY27. The company's basic earnings per share (EPS) stood at Rs. 9.04 in Q2 FY27, compared with Rs. 11.18 in Q2 FY26 and Rs. 7.82 in Q1 FY27.
On the operating front, EBITDA declined to approximately Rs. 337.5 crore from Rs. 381.8 crore in the year-ago quarter. The EBITDA margin contracted to 14.8% from 19.6%, reflecting higher commodity costs and operating expenses.
For H1 FY27, KOEL reported consolidated revenue from operations of Rs. 4,283.8 crore, compared with Rs. 3,713.7 crore in H1 FY26, registering growth of approximately 15.3%.
However, net profit from continuing operations declined 17.7% to Rs. 241.4 crore from Rs. 293.4 crore in the corresponding period last year. This highlights the impact of rising costs on profitability despite healthy revenue growth.
Power Generation and Aftermarket Drive Growth
Power Generation was one of the key contributors to the company's performance, with strong demand across domestic operations and market-share gains in the Medium Horsepower (MHP) and High Horsepower (HHP) categories. The aftermarket business also recorded strong growth, supported by demand for replacement products and services. Meanwhile, international operations delivered encouraging performance, particularly in African markets. These developments indicate that revenue growth was supported by multiple business areas, strengthening the company's overall business momentum.
Segment-Wise Revenue Performance
KOEL reported revenue of Rs. 1,745.28 crore from its B2B segment in Q2 FY27, making it the largest contributor. The B2C segment generated Rs. 330.18 crore, while the Financial Services segment contributed Rs. 208.58 crore.
The B2B business includes engines and generator sets supplied to industrial and institutional customers, while B2C covers consumer-oriented products. Financial Services provides financing-related offerings. The company is strengthening its international presence through a global agreement with DEUTZ, which is expected to support future business opportunities in the engine market.
Another important development was the first commercial billing from KASPL. Both developments form part of the company's efforts to expand its operations and create additional growth opportunities.
Why Did EBITDA Margins Decline?
Despite 17% revenue growth, KOEL's operating profitability remained under pressure. EBITDA declined 11.7% to approximately Rs. 338 crore, while the EBITDA margin fell by 480 basis points to 14.8%.
According to management, global commodity inflation created significant cost pressures during the quarter. Higher input costs affected operating profitability despite healthy demand across major business segments. The company's ability to manage commodity costs and improve operating efficiency will therefore be important for margin recovery.
Investor Perspective
Kirloskar Oil Engines delivered strong revenue growth in Q2 FY27, supported by Power Generation, Aftermarket and international operations. Its record quarterly revenue and market-share gains indicate healthy business momentum.
However, declining EBITDA, lower net profit and margin contraction highlight the pressure from rising commodity costs. Going forward, investors should monitor input costs, operating margins, demand in the Power Generation segment and the contribution from international operations. The company's ability to sustain revenue growth while recovering operating margins will be important for its future financial performance.
