6 Major EV Battery Manufacturing Hubs in India: Check Locations, Investments and Real Estate Impact
India’s electric-vehicle battery manufacturing industry is growing with investments from Tata Group’s Agratas, Ola Electric and Amara Raja Energy & Mobility. These industries span from Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Telangana to Karnataka and Maharashtra, where manufacturers are set to build large-scale lithium-ion gigafactories and battery-pack assembly units to expand India’s EV supply chain, as well as create opportunities for industrial development, logistics and real estate growth.
Gujarat
India registered around 23 lakh electric-vehicle (EV) sales in 2025, up nearly 16% year-on-year, with electric vehicles accounting for around 8% of new vehicle registrations. Rising adoption is driving investment in domestic battery manufacturing, with Gujarat emerging as a major hub for large-scale production .
The state’s key projects include Agratas in Sanand, set to develop a battery-cell facility with a planned first-phase capacity of 20 GWh annually and production slated for 2027. Reliance New Energy’s Jamnagar battery gigafactory will see first operations in 2026, with an initial capacity of 40 GWh annually, scalable to 100 GWh. Meanwhile, Toshiba, Denso and Suzuki’s TDSG venture adds to Gujarat’s lithium-ion battery manufacturing ecosystem.
TDSG has already produced battery packs for more than one million vehicles, with an annual production capacity of 18 million battery cells, with a further expansion of 12 million cells planned. Its batteries serve hybrid vehicles, while Agratas and Reliance will pursue larger-scale battery-cell production and energy storage.
Tamil Nadu
Tamil Nadu is a major EV manufacturing hub with established automotive supply chains, as well as the electric two-wheeler industry. India recorded 24.52 lakh EV sales in FY2026, up 24.6% year-on-year, including 14.01 lakh electric two-wheelers. In Krishnagiri, Ola Electric’s Futurefactory spans around 417 acres, with annual vehicle production capacity of up to 10 lakh units, while its battery gigafactory has a targeted capacity of 20 GWh. The company had established 1 GWh of installed cell-manufacturing capacity under the government’s PLI scheme as of December 2025.
In Hosur, Ather Energy operate electric two-wheeler and battery-pack manufacturing facilities and together they support demand for battery suppliers, component manufacturers, logistics facilities and industrial land across the Krishnagiri–Hosur belt.
Telangana
Telangana is strengthening its position in India’s EV battery supply chain, with investments in lithium-ion cell manufacturing, battery packs, and energy storage. At Divitipally in Mahabubnagar district, Amara Raja Energy & Mobility is developing its Giga Corridor across around 262 acres, with a planned investment of ₹9,500 crore and long-term capacity of 16 GWh for battery cells. The company inaugurated a 60 MWh Customer Qualification Plant in July 2026, backed by an investment of ₹500 crore, to validate lithium-ion cells before commercial-scale production. Its first major cell-manufacturing phase is targeting 2 GWh of capacity in 2027, while the wider project also includes battery-pack assembly and energy-storage solutions.
The project is expected to enhance the Mahabubnagar–Hyderabad industrial belt, by attracting battery component suppliers, engineering operations and logistics infrastructure as India’s EV market expands.
Karnataka
Karnataka is strengthening its position in India’s battery industry, with lithium-ion cell manufacturing and battery technology development. Exide Energy Solutions, a wholly owned subsidiary of Exide Industries, commissioned Phase I of its Devanahalli, Bengaluru, facility in Sept 2026, with a capacity of 6 GWh annually. The company plans to expand the facility to 12 GWh across two phases, backed by a cumulative investment of ₹5,202 crore in the subsidiary as of March 2026.
Bengaluru also has a substantial battery-pack assembly ecosystem, with more than 28 recorded operations cited in industry directories. As India’s lithium-ion battery demand grows from an estimated 20 GWh to 140-150 GWh by 2030, domestic cell production could help reduce import dependence and attract further investment in battery components, engineering and industrial infrastructure.

Maharashtra
Maharashtra is a major market for electric vehicles, with 2.79 lakh EVs sold in FY2026, including 34,139 electric passenger vehicles, a 100% year-on-year increase in the latter category. In Pune’s Chakan industrial belt, Mahindra & Mahindra has allocated ₹4,500 crore towards its EV manufacturing and battery assembly operations, as part of its wider ₹16,000-crore investment plan for FY2022-FY2027. Its dedicated EV facility occupies around 88,000 sq m, within the larger Chakan manufacturing hub spanning 657 acres, and has an initial annual production target of 90,000 electric SUVs, scalable to 1.2 lakh units.
Hindalco invested ₹500 crore in a five-acre Chakan facility to manufacture aluminium battery enclosures, with an initial capacity of 80,000 units annually and plans to double it to 1.6 lakh. These investments reinforce Pune’s role in EV assembly, battery integration and component manufacturing, supporting demand for industrial space and logistics infrastructure.
NCR
The National Capital Region (NCR), particularly Gurugram and Noida, is developing a supporting ecosystem for India’s EV battery industry, with a focus on battery recycling, critical mineral recovery and battery solutions. BatX Energies, headquartered in Gurugram, operate a battery recycling facility at Sikandrabad in Uttar Pradesh with processing capacity up to 5,100 tonnes annually. Its technology recovers lithium, cobalt, nickel and manganese from used lithium-ion batteries, with reported recovery rates of 97-99%.
Meanwhile, Attero, based in Noida, is among the country’s established e-waste and lithium-ion battery recycling companies, while other firms in the region are involved in battery-pack manufacturing and energy-storage solutions. As India’s EV market expands, NCR’s recycling and material recovery infrastructure could help reduce dependence on imported critical minerals and support a more circular battery supply chain.
How EV Battery Manufacturing Could Shape Industrial Real Estate
India’s EV battery investments are set to drive demand for industrial land, warehouses and component manufacturing facilities across Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Karnataka and Maharashtra. EV manufacturing and related infrastructure could require 5,760-6,852 acres of land by 2030, creating potential opportunities for industrial parks and logistics hubs.
Conclusion
India’s EV battery manufacturing landscape is expanding across Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Karnataka and Maharashtra, with investments spanning battery cells, packs and recycling, with growing adoption of EVs could strengthen domestic supply chains, as well as create opportunities for industrial development, logistics and real estate.
