Nearly Double the Biomethane From the Same Biogas: Catator and LTH Students Test the Concept
What if a biogas plant could nearly double its biomethane output without adding any biological feedstock? On-site CO\2\ methanation makes that possible. Instead of removing the carbon dioxide in raw biogas, which makes up 40 to 50 percent of the gas, the CO\2\ reacts with renewable hydrogen to form additional methane. The result is vehicle-fuel-grade gas with 97 to 98 percent methane.
A new project between Chemical Engineering students at LTH, Lund University, and Catator now puts the concept to the test.
