Grasim Q2 FY27 Results Preview: 5 Key Things Investors Should Watch
The flagship company of Aditya Birla Group, Grasim Industries is scheduled to report its Q2 FY27 results on November 13. Investors will be keenly looking at the performance of its emerging businesses.
In Q1 FY27, the company had reported consolidated revenue of Rs.48,716 crore, up 21% YoY. Its EBITDA rose 26% to Rs.8,077 crore. Profit attributable to owners increased 49% to Rs.2,153 crore. In Q2 FY26, the company had reported consolidated revenue of Rs.39,900 crore and EBITDA of Rs.5,217 crore. However, the performance of its earnings from the following five businesses would decide the investor sentiment.

With a market capitalization of Rs. 2,19,361.88 crore, the shares of Grasim Industries Ltd were trading at Rs. 3,223.35 per share, up 2.66 percent from its previous closing price of Rs. 3,139.85 apiece. The stock trades at a P/E of 19.3x on a consolidated basis.
1. Birla Opus: Can Revenue Growth Translate Into Better Profitability?
Grasim's decorative paints business "Birla Opus" has seen good momentum in Q1 FY27. It posted revenues of Rs.1,661 crore, up 64% YoY and 17% sequentially, growing its market share by ~30 bps QoQ to be the third largest player in the organised decorative paint industry in India.
However, it did raise prices in the quarter (overall 8.8%) to offset rising input costs. But high revenue growth does not necessarily mean that the business is profitable. There is a lot of investment needed to launch a new paint brand.
Investors should keep an eye on if the increase in sales volumes, realisations and capacity utilisation are helping reduce the operating losses. If the company can continue to grow market share without increasing the amount spent on promotions then it shows that operating economics are improving.
2. Birla Pivot: Is the Business Moving Towards EBITDA Break-Even?
Birla Pivot has become another key growth driver for Grasim. It reported a strong 75% YoY growth, with revenues at Rs.2,548 crore during Q1 FY27. The revenue run rate is also quite robust, at above Rs.10,000 crore annually.
However, there was a sequential dip in revenues as customers focused on optimising their inventories.
The company has guided that Birla Pivot will break even on an EBITDA basis by the exit of FY27. Hence, these numbers would be key to see how the business is shaping up.
Investors will need to keep an eye on transactional growth, re-order rates and operating leverage. The key will be to see if the business can sustain its revenue growth, while also reducing losses. If they are able to reduce losses, while seeing a sequential dip in revenues, it would increase confidence that management has a clear path to profitability.
3. Cellulosic Fibres: Can Higher Prices Support Earnings Recovery?
Grasim saw an improvement in its Cellulosic Fibres business in Q1 FY27. Revenue grew 12% YoY to Rs.4,530 crore. EBITDA almost doubled to Rs.632 crore.

This was driven by higher global prices, a favourable product mix and higher speciality fibre contributions. Global prices increased by 19% YoY to $1.81/kg. However, volumes fell 4% YoY to 202 KT due to planned maintenance and lower domestic demand.
Investors will want to look at whether they can sustain the improvement in realisations in Q2 FY27. The segment had low EBITDA of only Rs.350 crore in Q2 FY26. If domestic volumes recover and exports remain strong then it will be a better indication that the earnings improvement is not just due to favourable pricing.
4. Chemicals: Will Higher Realisations Sustain Operating Margins?
Grasim's Chemicals division also performed better in the last quarter, with revenue rising 10% YoY to Rs.2,640 crore in Q1 FY27. EBITDA rose 16% to Rs.491 crore.
The rise in caustic soda realisations and speciality chemicals (which contributed 30% of segment revenue) that were up 200 basis points YoY. However, caustic soda volumes were down 6% on lower production due to captive power plant maintenance. Chlorine realisations were also down. Investors should monitor if caustic volumes improve and electrochemical unit realisations remain good. The division posted EBITDA of Rs.365 crore in Q2 FY26.
5. Cement and Financial Services: Can Subsidiaries Sustain Consolidated Growth?
The consolidated results are highly dependent on the performance of its subsidiaries such as UltraTech Cement and Aditya Birla Capital. UltraTech Cement saw its total cement sales volumes increase by 12.2% YoY to 41.3 million tonnes in Q1 FY27 and saw its operating EBITDA margin at Rs.1,214 per tonne.
This compares with Rs.966 per tonne in Q2 FY26. Investors will have to watch out on how much the increased utilisation, cost savings and pricing discipline will help sustain the cement profitability in the September quarter.
Aditya Birla Capital saw its loan book increase by 32% YoY to Rs.2,19,289 crore in Q1 FY27. Investors will have to watch out on whether asset quality remains stable as the loan growth is strong. As these businesses contribute a lot to Grasim’s consolidated results, this could affect the earnings despite the improvement in standalone results.
Conclusion
Grasim’s Q2 FY27 results will show whether its emerging businesses are moving closer to profitability. Sustained revenue growth, narrowing losses at Birla Opus and Birla Pivot, and improving margins in fibres and chemicals will be key indicators.
