Trading Charges Remain the Biggest Revenue Contributor
BSE's consolidated transaction charges increased 60 percent to Rs. 2,455.6 crore in H1 FY27, compared with Rs. 1,531.5 crore in H1 FY26. This income stream remains closely linked to market activity, making trading volumes an important part of the exchange's business performance.
However, the September quarter showed a different trend on a sequential basis. Transaction charges stood at Rs. 1,127.8 crore in Q2 FY27, compared with Rs. 1,327.7 crore in Q1 FY27, marking a decline of around 15.1 percent . On a year-on-year basis, they were still higher by 42 percent compared with Rs. 794 crore in Q2 FY26.
The movement indicates that although transaction charges recorded strong growth over the first half, income from this segment moderated in the latest quarter compared with the preceding quarter.
Mutual Fund Platform Adds Another Revenue Stream
BSE's mutual fund platform, BSE StAR MF, is another important part of its business. The platform allows investors to carry out mutual fund transactions, including purchases, redemptions, systematic investment plans and switches.
During H1 FY27, the platform processed 480 million orders, up 25 percent from 384 million orders in H1 FY26. Revenue from mutual fund services also increased 11 percent to Rs. 145.7 crore from Rs. 131.1 crore in the corresponding period.

This platform gives BSE another source of business beyond trading activity, with its order volumes and distributor network supporting its mutual fund operations.
Corporate Services and SME Listings Expand Its Business
BSE also earns income by providing services to companies, including listing-related services, book-building and other corporate services.
Consolidated income from services to corporates increased 9 percent to Rs. 266.5 crore in H1 FY27, compared with Rs. 243.9 crore in H1 FY26. The September quarter recorded Rs. 165.9 crore, against Rs. 100.7 crore in Q1 FY27, an increase of around 64.7 percent sequentially. It was also around 19.8 percent higher than Rs. 138.5 crore in Q2 FY26.
The exchange's SME platform is another part of its corporate services business. As of October 2026, 811 companies were listed on the BSE SME platform. These companies had raised Rs. 19,459 crore through IPOs, while their combined market capitalisation stood at Rs. 1.03 lakh crore.
These activities allow BSE to earn income from companies seeking to raise capital and list their shares, in addition to its transaction-based revenue.

Conclusion
The performance in the first half of the fiscal year 27 for BSE has been very good due to the increase in trading activities, thanks to the income generated by mutual funds, corporate services, and others. Although there has been an increase in both revenue and profits compared to the previous year, the sequential decrease in Q2 suggests that there is moderation.
