I think you really have to be alive to world events and opportunity, but it only works if you have a larger portfolio and you sell money losing investments quickly.
I bought Rheinmetall RNMBY in 2024 because I thought Europe would continue to boost defense spending. Then I bought Airbus EADSY and a European defense fund EUAD. All have outperformed, especially RNMBY which rose by more than 400 pct.
But this was in a bull market, which makes everyone look like a genius.
Oil has gone up a lot, so I just sold some to buy BRK B shares.
You can't do investment level research, which is one of many reasons why index funds work so well.
