Do you know why people call tissue paper Kleenex ?
It is recognizable, it's two syllables and it rolls off the tongue. I preferred SPLG to VOO because it is affordable and performs equally to VOO and a little better than SPY. It is now S P Y M which doesn't have the same distinction to me.
I think ITOT is overlooked too for a whole market ETF. Everyone goes straight to VTI.

Technically, SPLG used to not be S&P500. It's always been large cap though.

SPLG just started tracking the S&P500 specifically this past decade though

>but they'll still remember VOO because its an OG.
They'll remember VOO because of the reddit echo chamber ringing in their ears.
SPYM is the new name for SPLG.
SPLG was started in November 2005.
VOO was started in April 2006.
SPYM (formerly SPLG) is more OG than VOO. And SPY is older than both of them.

In the last 3 years VOO has still returned slightly better results than SPYM. Maybe you should know the facts before you argue that somehow SPLG is better than VOO. They're the same, you can't predict if one will be better than the other based on just the maintenance fees as they're too close.

Liquidity is one reason. VOO has a much lather liquidity pool than SPYM/SPLG. The expense ratio is barely worth mentioning in the grand scheme of things.

Maybe you're not as smart as you think you are because over a decade ago SPLG tracked a different index.

SPYM is just a rename of SPLG, which was about as old as VOO. SPYM is managed by State Street, which manages the oldest S&P 500 index fund, SPY.

I've always preferred SPYM (formerly SPLG) for the lower cost and expense ratio. Even a 0.000001% boost in compound growth is good for me!

I want to make two investments with one being long term and the other being short term. I seen some people recommend VOO, VTI, VT, SPLG and SPY for long term and I only seen SGOV for short term. I want to learn each one of them to see which one will be best for me so I can hopefully make a decision next week. I received money from my deceased parents house and trying to use it to help my future. also can you all please share other short term investments thats good to make and sources to follow to stay up to date with them.

It doesn't hurt any worse if I hold 100% SPY vs 25% VOO, 25% IVV 25% 25% SPLG 25% VTI  hahaha. It's the exact same identical hurt!
