Ultra is a game distribution platform and central hub that provides many gaming industry services under a single roof, accessible through a single login. Gamers are able to discover, buy, and play games, watch live-streaming feeds, interact with their favorite influencers, participate in contests, compete in tournaments, and more. Ultra is a fork of the EOS blockchain. The decision to use EOS was made due to the network's high throughput and lack of transaction fees. Additionally, EOS smart contracts are written primarily in C++ which is the leading programming language throughout the gaming industry. Several changes were made to the EOS codebase in order to better serve the Ultra network. Ultra Power - In order to achieve a fee-less network, even during times of max utilization, Ultra condensed the CPU and NET resources native to EOS into a simplified resource known as Ultra Power. On EOS, CPU & NET are necessary for interacting on the network. Unfortunately this brings inefficiencies whereby individual accounts will collect more CPU/NET than is necessary in order to avoid failed transaction. This creates a situation where resources remain idle, when the rest of the network needs them. Ultra Power solves this by pooling these resources together so everyone can utilize them. The more Ultra Power a user or smart contract holds, the faster its transactions are executed. Additionally, every account has an Ultra Power quota which increases by staking UOS and decreases when performing transactions. This quota resets every 24 hours. Even in scenarios where users have negative quotas, these transactions will remain free but take longer. In rare situations where a deeply negative transaction is in queue for too long, the network will drop and fail the transaction. Ultra has also taken on the management of RAM, another native resource to EOS, which allows for free account creation. In order to deter actors from spamming the network, Ultra has some solutions. The first is phone verification used when creating an account. The second is implemented by their block producers who are able to greylist/blacklist users who abuse the network as well as apply a negative power quota modifier. Governance Model - In an effort to create a platform that is both familiar and competitive to the traditional gaming industry, Ultra chose to remove voting with coins that is present on EOS. The team did this for three reasons: The target market does not necessarily care about or understand the technology that underlies their gaming experience. UOS is not distributed well enough to offer a fair voting experience. Ultra needs to select reliable block producers to build trust at an industry scale. Ultra developed their own advertisement technology which currently serves 33 billiondaily ads. Integrated into the Ultra platform, this technology serves three purposes: Enable publishers to promote their content more efficiently. Allow developers to instantly reinject their earned UOS into new ads. Provide users with an opt-in ad revenue share program allowing them to earn UOS. To further adoption and ease-of-use, Ultra developed their own SDK known as Ultra Cloud. This tool will allow developers to port games from Steam, Xbox, and Playstation by streamlining the conversion of traditional assets and games into NFT's. The SDK will also support common game engines and languages including Unity, Unreal Engine, Lumberyard, HTML5, C#, C++, Frostbite, and more.
