I figured out the difference between trading pairs and providing liquidity after spending more time trading Solana tokens from my wallet on OpenSea where the liquidity details were easy to read. Swapping POPCAT or WIF just means you're trading against a pool that already exists and creating a pool yourself is a totally separate thing that exposes you to impermanent loss.
