Your approach is exactly right - treating this as a skill to develop rather than a get-rich-quick scheme puts you ahead of 90% of beginners who blow up their accounts in the first few months.
For market choice, I'd actually recommend starting with futures, specifically micro contracts like MES (micro S&P 500). Here's why: futures have centralized pricing, excellent liquidity during market hours, and clear session structures that help you learn market rhythm. Unlike forex (24/5 with confusing broker spreads) or crypto (wild volatility), futures give you predictable patterns to learn from. Start with $2-5k if possible - enough to feel real pressure but not enough to ruin you.
Your 1-2 hours daily is perfect for learning one solid strategy. Focus on the first hour after NYSE open (9:30 ET) - that's when the best moves typically happen. For your routine, I'd suggest: 30 minutes pre-market prep (news, levels to watch), 60 minutes active trading/observation, 30 minutes post-session review and journaling.
Skip indicators initially and focus purely on price action - support/resistance levels, volume patterns, and basic trend structure. Learn to read what institutions are doing rather than relying on lagging indicators. The book "Trading in the Zone" by Mark Douglas is essential for psychology, and "Markets in Profile" by Dalton for understanding market structure.
Biggest beginner trap: jumping between strategies when you hit a losing streak. Pick ONE approach (I recommend opening range breakouts) and stick with it for at least 3 months while paper trading. Most people never become profitable because they never give any single strategy enough time to work.
What's your current schedule like? That'll help determine the best trading session to focus on.

There is really no better way to say it; so sorry if it hurts your feeling buddy. This portfolio is awful
Sound investment theory is you invest in ONE, that's right, one broad market index fund and you continue to invest in that one forever. If you do that, you will beat everyone who tried to be fancy with their portfolios, like you did, in the long run (20 to 30 years).
Pick either a global index fund like VWCE, or an S&P 500 based index fund like VUAA. At 22 years, you don't need gold, corporate bonds, dividends, defense, or qqq crap.
This is the proven, books written about it, research done on it, strategy that works for everyone. One ETF for the rest of your life.

Apologies to those who may not want to read, this may be a bit of an essay...
While I know some of us get excited by penny stocks for the wrong (or right) reasons, I have been doing A LOT of DD recently on a company I truly believe is about to enter a new phase. Now, I know that **Quantum** has seen its run recently and the hype may have died down a bit, but I don't think this company has had its day yet, and the reason being, no one is worried about the threat quantum computing poses... But the more research I do, the more alarmed I am.
01 Quantum Inc. (formerly 01 Communique Labs) **TSX: ONE.V OTC: OONEF** has been deep in the development of post-quantum cybersecurity products for the last 7 years. (Keep in mind this company has been around for 32 years and has been listed since 2000.) They were originally a remote access tech and software company but, while they still offer their legacy products, they have been making the transition into Quantum-Safe cybersecurity. They've been so deep in development, in fact, that they have done very little in the way of marketing or self-promotion up until recently.
Most people underestimate how big of a deal quantum computing is for security. Our entire digital world today – banking, government systems, cloud services, even crypto – is protected by encryption standards like RSA and ECC. These rely on the fact that it’s basically impossible for classical computers to factor large numbers or solve certain math problems in any reasonable time.
Quantum computers flip that on its head. Once they scale, Shor’s algorithm can crack RSA/ECC in *hours*, not centuries. That means everything we trust today – passwords, digital signatures, private communications, financial systems – becomes exposed. The scary part is the **"harvest now, decrypt later"** threat: bad actors can already be recording encrypted data today, waiting until quantum computing is strong enough to break it.
Before you tell me that we're still decades away from the quantum era, think about how far we've come in the last 25 years when it comes to computing, now look at how fast AI has come in the last 5. You're going to tell me, that, especially with the power of AI, we're not going to be able to have a quantum breakthrough?
Governments and big tech are already preparing for what’s called the **post-quantum cryptography era**. NIST is standardizing new encryption methods resistant to quantum attacks, but most businesses aren’t even close to being ready. Transitioning global systems takes years, not months.
That’s why companies like **01 Quantum Inc.** with their trademarked and patented technology are interesting. They are the first to market enterprise offering **PQC** solutions across business, finance, AI and crypto. They already have big-name partnerships like Thales, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Hitachi.
Now, if it isn't obvious by now, I am an investor, but this isn't investment advice by any means. All I hope to do is inspire some more people to dive in and research for themselves. If you made it this far, I truly appreciate you spending the time. All the best and good luck to everyone!

So funny how when President Obama did essentially that same thing- getting valuable stock from the automakers in exchange for Federal loans because they were about to go bankrupt, the anti Obama crowd screamed he was a dictator, a fascist, Govt "taking over" private businesses etc!! but somehow trump demanding a CUT of revenue from Intel to "allow" them to sell THEIR product to china is ok now???

And finally, at someone's suggestion —
# WHAT IS IMPLIED VOLATILITY (IV)? —
(Taken from [https://www.investopedia.com/terms/i/iv.asp](https://www.investopedia.com/terms/i/iv.asp) ) —
Dumbed down, IV is a forward-looking metric measuring how likely the market thinks the price is to change between now and when an options contract expires. The higher IV is, the higher premiums on contracts run. The more radically the price of a security swings over a short period of time, the higher IV pumps, driving options prices higher as well.
The longer the price trades relatively flat, the more IV will drop over time.
IV is just one of many variables (called 'greeks') used to price options contracts.
# WHAT IS HISTORICAL VOLATILITY (HV)? —
(Taken from [https://www.investopedia.com/terms/h/historicalvolatility.asp](https://www.investopedia.com/terms/h/historicalvolatility.asp) ) —
Dumbed down, I'm not fully sure. Based on what I read, it's a historical metric derived from how the price in the past has moved away from the average price over a selected interval. But the short of it is that it determines how 'risky' the market thinks a stock (or an option I guess) is. The higher the historical volatility over a given period, the more 'risky' they think it is. The lower the HV over a period of time, the 'safer' a security (or option) is.
And if anyone wants to fill in some knowledge gaps or correct where these analyses are wrong, please feel free.
# WHAT IS 'MAX PAIN'? —
In this context, 'max pain' is the price at which the most options (both calls and puts) for a security will expire worthless. For some (or many), it is a long held belief that market manipulators will manipulate the price of a stock toward this number to fuck over people who buy options.
# ONE LAST THOUGHT —
If used to make any decision. which it absolutely should ***NOT*** be (obligatory #NFA disclaimer), this information should not be considered on its own, but as one point in a ridiculously complex and convoluted ocean of data points that I'm way too stupid to list out here. Mostly, this information is just to keep people abreast of the movement of one key variable options writers use to ***fuck us over*** on a weekly and quarterly basis if we DO choose to play options.
Just thought I should throw that out there.

No. Zero chance whatsoever.
There's a higher probability of Donald Trump being hit by a lightning while riding a rodeo bull inside a moving truck, than Monero being re-listed in any centralized exchange that deals with fiat.
If there is ONE single thing universally disliked by ALL governments and banks worldwide, no exception, it's Monero.
Literally anyone who has control over "big money" will not dare to even place 0.001% of their net worth into Monero.
They are so afraid, they are building the entire (social) media narrative in a such way to exclude even the possibility of Monero word being said aloud.

This is the ONE thing that Trump did that I can agree with.
For decades the US government has been subsidizing corporations directly (remember those bailouts ?) or indirectly (where would Boeing be without our tax money ?)
If the government is going to help those dumbasses at Intel climb out of the hole they've been digging for 30 years, we the people should get a stake in the company. That's a common deal in the business world. Banks or investors bring fresh money in exchange for equity.
If Intel's fortunes improve, we will all benefit. If it goes bankrupt we will lose what we would have given them anyway.
It's an improvement.

I’m new to crypto trading and keep hearing about AI tools that supposedly help with strategies, signals, or even risk management.
The challenge I’ve noticed is that most seem designed for advanced traders or require a steep learning curve, and some carry enough risk that a beginner could blow up their account fast.
Are there any AI platforms or assistants that are truly beginner-friendly and focus more on education, learning, and market understanding than just spitting out trades? Also, if you could add ONE unique feature to an AI trading assistant, what would it be?

Totally agree with Famous, Dramatic and others. I've traded paper money, real money and honestly, there's not much difference if you focus on ONE strategy with ONE ticker. I'd say unless you're working with more than $100k, just master that one ticker. Become intimately acquainted and know how it moves. Too often we get spread out and distracted, confused and frustrated when we have too many trades on. Think laser versus flashlight.
And for heaven's sake, stop berating yourself for losing trades! EVERYONE loses. It's mostly a zero-sum game. The best way to think about it is - did I execute my plan? If so, it was a successful trade, win or lose. The trick is to develop habits that move you toward winning, and ditch the ones that lead to losses. That's why Bert says to keep a trade journal. Know what makes you money and do THAT.

The frustration in your post is so relatable - that feeling of everything making sense in hindsight but being completely lost in real-time is something most of us have been through. Two years of struggling doesn't mean you're not cut out for this; it often means you're overthinking and jumping between too many approaches without mastering any single one.
Looking at that chart you posted, what you're seeing is a clean trend day with obvious institutional participation. The key insight here is that days like this are actually pretty rare - maybe 20-30% of trading days give you those beautiful, textbook moves. The other 70% are choppy, range-bound days that eat strategies alive. Learning to identify which type of day you're in before you trade is crucial.
For ORB specifically (since you mentioned it), the strategy isn't about the breakout itself - it's about reading the context around it. Is there overnight news? What's the volume like? Is the breakout happening with or against the prevailing trend? Most failed ORB trades happen because people take every breakout instead of being selective about market conditions.
Here's what I'd suggest: Pick ONE setup and trade it for the next 3 months without deviation. Journal every single trade with screenshots and notes about market context. You'll start seeing patterns in what works and what doesn't. The "astrology" feeling comes from trying to apply every technique you've learned instead of developing deep expertise in one approach.
Stop worrying about letting winners run for now - focus on taking consistent small profits and keeping losses smaller. That risk-reward ratio will improve naturally as your entry timing gets better with experience.
What specific market conditions have you noticed when your ORB setups actually work versus when they fail?
