This is 100% accurate. With mining and assuming we stay PoW, this is the approach we have to take. Mining needs to become profitable for miners.
One thing I've wondered for a while is with these other gpu oriented PoW coins where they run miners on the GPU (are any left that don't use asics - is doge on asics even?), is why don't they also mine monero? Monero uses CPU cycles, so why don't we try to get all these other GPU and ASIC miners (I'm not sure about asics, there may not be enough cpu leftover after managing the ASICs) to spend their CPU cycles that they aren't really doing anything to mine Monero too at the same time. Wouldn't it be basically free money for them?
Asking AI about the above. The best coins to work with are RVN, ERG, FLUX, & FIRO and then secondary options are NEOX, BEAM, & IRON. All of these are GPU mined but not with ASICs and so miners would free CPU to do a little extra mining of XMR. The first 4 are GPU miners resistant to ASICs (interesting) so they should really have CPU to spare. We should reach out to them and get them to mine our network.
