3 that so far have been life changing financially for me (2 really good, 1 big miss):
1) During the GFC period (2009ish), loaded up on some tech stocks with my meager savings at the time. I put all my liquid net worth into Apple, Amazon, Google, Oracle, Salesforce, and a couple other big tech names. Largely held over the years. That meager amount ended up being a decent nest egg so far. I didn't have any specific foresight, I just understood tech better than other sectors and believed in US software.
2) Around 2018/19, had a hunch that semis as a whole were going to expand secularly due to some combination of AI (I did not have the foresight of predicting the LLM wave, but even back then it was clear to me that machine learning was going to be embedded into more and more systems), proliferation of sensors/IoT, autonomous vehicles, and robotics. So I bought a chunk of semis names including TSMC, Broadcom, AMD, Intel, and NVIDIA. It wasn't a big % of my holdings but have since become a much larger % over time. Funny enough, I almost didn't pull the trigger on NVDA because at the time it seemed expensive and had already gone up 8x or so in the prior couple of years.
3) I took a cryptography class in 2009 and we read the original Bitcoin paper, had a big class discussion on cryptocurrencies and blockchain. I thought it was the stupidest idea in the world. A few years later, some engineer friends of mine raved about BTC and told me I should mine some. I think it was around $0.50 per BTC at the time. I still thought it was the stupidest idea in the world. A few years later, after BTC had a big run, another friend told me about Ethereum and how much better it was, primarily in transaction speed. He told me to buy some. I don't remember the price but it was definitely <$1.00 per ETH. I just ignored him.
Lessons learned:
* Try to identify a broad secular trend, and load up on the biggest names in that trend. I wasn't smart enough to know exactly which co would be the #1 or #2 player, but a composite of 5-10 leaders should perform well if the trend holds up
* When really smart and technical friends rave about some new technical thing, pay attention once in a while. It might not hurt to put a tiny bit of capital into whatever they're evangelizing

Dude! I'm going to stake ETH after all, through ether.fi. I considered Rocketpool with Reth, but I have more faith in Ether.Fi because of its liquidity vault and the whole ecosystem it's building. I see Solana as very volatile and found ETH to be more solid.

Selling ETH at 50.

The move this week correlates directly with the stablecoin regulation news. Markets repriced ETH and DeFi tokens as soon as the revised CLARITY Act yield compromise language started circulating.
Crypto TVL has been tracking regulatory clarity signals all year. It's institutional positioning ahead of a probable Senate markup in late April. The "sentiment shifting" framing undersells what's actually happening mechanically.

Hyping ETH is like saying intel’s silicon is superior to Apple.

ETH on exchanges just hit an all time low, only about 11% of the supply is left there. Back in June 2020 it was around 32%, then from 2022 to 2024 it kept slowly dropping, and by March 2026 it almost went vertical. My advice, strong hold.

Officially they are accepting stablecoins and yuan.
There are also rumors that they accept other cryptocurrencies and euros.
We already know the Iranian government has funds, and has wallets that have been using and accepting BTC, ETH, USDT, XRP, LTC, and TRX.

I am 21 year old student interested in personal finance and have been a fan of the Bogle approach since 16. I believe I am in a slight predicament and would like human advice in addition to my ChatGPT advisor.
I have:
* \~11k sitting in **M1 finance** (10k VTI/VTUS) (1K BTC/ETH)
* \~22k sitting in **Fidelity Go** robo manager.
I want to:
* Combine everything into 1 account (most likely Fidelity personal Roth IRA)
* avoid fees at M1 and Fidelity Go/ Fidelity
* create a decently balanced pi for my demographic and situation. (age, job, etc..)

My current understanding/ thinking:
* There will be no capital gains tax with Fidelity or M1, everything is already taxed, so I can liquidate and change up the securities at any time. (something I haven't done manually because of my set and forget approach + robo advisor)
* I Will have to pay unavoidable [$100-200](https://help.m1.com/en/articles/9332008-how-to-transfer-accounts-out-of-m1) for M1 out fee
* Might have trouble merging different securities into my newest Pie, however, Vanguard trades at no additional fee on Fidelity, so there is no benefit to using Fidelity equivalent.
* Expense ratios are all extremely low (<0.1%), so differences are negligible over decades.
* I plan to redistribute to a basic 3 fund focused on US and international.

Hi, sorry but I don't know enough of those alts to be able to offer advice. May I ask how you've structured your portfolio? You say these are just the alts, so what % is BTC & ETH and any other big ones.
You have quite a lot of alts. Did you research each one or are you following someone or something that suggests alts to buy.
The only suggestion I can offer is that you look at what's included in some of the crypto indexes, like the CoinDesk 20 token that's made up of 20 top Cryptos. Maybe top 20 is a bit small but I don't know if there are others

Even ChatGPT is getting cooked by ETH... its so over.

Tbh I know past performance doesnt guarantee future results and copy trading is stupid risky. but back in early 2025 I was lurking here feeling totally priced out. my brain just shuts off looking at TA charts so I decided to run an experiment with $300 to see if copy trading actually works for retail or if its just a trap to liquidate noobs.
I needed a platform that let me do micro allocations without making me upload my passport just to play with a few hundred bucks. ended up using BYDFi mainly cause they let you start with 10 bucks per trader. (also used their demo account for a week first so I didn't fat finger my real deposit).
spent like two weeks just staring at the leaderboards. didnt pick the highest APY guys cause thats usually massive survivorship bias.
my rules:
\- win rate > 60%
\- max drawdown < 30% (anything higher means they refuse to use stop losses and hold heavy bags)
\- 3+ months of transparent history
\- mid-range copier counts so slippage wouldn't kill me
split the 300 across 3 totally different traders. 150 on a boring BTC/ETH guy, 100 on an altcoin swing trader, and 50 on an aggressive scalper that I basically treated as a lotto ticket.
the data (early 2025 to Jan 2026)
months 1-3: slow and painful. net up about 80 bucks. btc guy was consistent but agonizingly slow. the scalper blew up almost instantly. down 20 in the first week and I manually cut the connection before he drained the rest. first lesson: scalpers revenge trade to keep their rankings up. avoid them.
months 4-6: altcoin guy caught a crazy SOL move. my 100 turned into 340.
months 7-9: took profits and reallocated 600 across 4 traders. had to drop two of them pretty fast. they started taking reckless over-leveraged positions in choppy markets to farm follower fees. if you dont babysit them they WILL wreck your account.
months 10-14: bull market definitely carried the water here. I'm no genius, rising tide lifts all boats. but the guys I followed actually used risk management and took profits when greed peaked. portfolio crossed 5k in jan 2026 and has hovered around there since.
what I actually learned:
1. copy trading is NOT passive income. set it and forget it = liquidated. monitor them like employees and fire them the second they stray from their strategy.
2. diversification is mandatory.
3. start micro. if I put in 1k from the start, the scalper's early losses would have made me panic sell everything. I needed those first few months of micro stakes to learn without emotions.
not financial advice obviously. just wanted to share the reality behind a small account test. has anyone else tracked their long term copy trading stats? curious if my survival is an outlier or if others managed to avoid the liquidation cascades.
