As much as I like this, I can’t help feel like a video dispelling the impact of DOGE accidentally helps undermine reports of the real damage being done by this administration.
My work involves working with the IRS Taxpayer Advocate Service a great deal. I am losing about 3/4 of the people I work with on a regular basis. This department helps the poorest of the poor- people who have often been victimized by malignant tax preparers. By the time they speak to me they are usually weeks away from homelessness because that’s how it is for the very poor- they get behind through the year, then file early so they can use the refund to keep head above water. So the procedures we work on together- already slow because much of the review work goes through the chronically understaffed Kansas City office (which is experiencing further Reductions in Force as we speak) will now likely take six months instead of two because every caseworker now carries 3x the load. These families didn’t have two months to wait and they sure as fuck don’t have six.
My coworkers who deal with other agencies are seeing similar problems. Our GSA contact got pressured into retirement and the agency was told that for a single new hire they need to get rid of four people- all of whom bring institutional knowledge to the table that would require years to replicate with a new hire. Is there someone served by the VA who feels that they got care and service in a timely manner? Hell no, and it’s getting worse. Social Security Administration? HHS? Nope. It was hard enough to do mission critical work in a timely manner without these morons pissing in the pool.
We can talk about the idiocy these guys are doing- canceling contracts and reinstating them after lunch- but what we really need is an in-depth examination of the pain that Elon and his gang of idiots are causing.

I think the whole point of DOGE was for Elon to poke around government contracts and data and sway them in a way that benefits him. He might be framing it as some money saving scheme but it seems to be more like DOGUE. As someone who claims to be intelligent basic accounting seems to be above his understanding.
