Ok. Sorry I can’t attach a photo of my portfolio. I’ll type it out instead:
Bought 3.5k AUD in crypto between 16-22nd January 2025, and watched as it all came crashing down lol. Now I’m in a better position I’d like advice on how to exit/ what crypto to sell/ swap. No photos allowed so I’ll list my investments and where they’re sitting now, can someone please advise of a good strategy moving forward, as I have no idea what to do right now tbh..
Purchased crypto in AUD:
$1k into btc, currently worth $1067.
$850 into ETH, currently worth $1032.
$500 into SOL, currently worth $385.
$335 into XRP, currently worth $336.
$335 into ADA, currently worth $260.
$100 into CRO, currently worth $105.
$200 into ICP, currently worth $94.
$150 into DOGE, currently worth $80.
Should I sell ICP and DOGE, maybe ADA and SOL, take the loss and put into ETH or BTC, or into CRO?? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated, cheers!! Happy to answer any questions..

You can probably pull this subreddit up from that era specifically, and people were still insanely bullish and regularly discussed BTC replacing gold and/or the USD.
The specific of Harvard & the president is one thing - I thought the establishment would snuff btc out instead of using it to widen wealth inequality myself.
But no, people were insanely bullish then and discussed 1m a token and btc as global unit of account. Hell Jared caught mod role from making rainbow math that ended up to be entirely divorced itself from reality, and there has never been a real collective reckoning with how wrong most of the bullish posters here (or elsewhere) have been wrt timeframe.

We’ve already seen more support developed above $100k this year than the amount of support which was developed above $10k in 2017.
At some point so much support is established that a price becomes a solid floor which BTC will never break below ever again. What if the current 47 day streak above $100k extends to 100 days? 180 days? 365 days? Etc. The longer the steak extends the more likely it becomes that BTC will never fall below $100k ever again.

If there's another momentum-reversal and ETH profits begin rotating into BTC, the next pump towards a new all-time high will be biblical

Am I the only one thinking it's the bare minimum? I was expecting ETH way higher in 2025 at this point. I mean BTC is way above 100k.

Institutions want to take the lowest financial risk possible.
If Bitcoin remains successful after the following halving, then we can expect Institutions to start grabbing up the major coins.
Litecoin will come soon after BTC FOMO stabilizes, right now they want to buy $BTC before it's millions of dollars.

& When $BTC is in the millions, we will be retired.

>Since last year I diversified newer bitcoin purchases in an ETF, but I always wanted the trifecta of ETF, exchange, and cold storage to diversify my risk.
One note about this, is that's not really what 'diversifying risk means.' This is like saying you've diversified because you have TSLA in your Robinhood, Fidelity, and Schwab accounts. It's the same asset class, just through different instruments.
Now I also have BTC in cold storage, on exchanges, and through ETFs but there's essentially no point to an ETF over an exchange unless you have money in a type of account that you can't use to purchase bitcoin directly, like an IRA or 401k
>Where do I go from here? Should I suck it up and go with the purchase of 2 hardware wallets? Has your hardware wallet lasted that long?
First get rid of the Legders. They're terrible hardware (mine lasted only a few years too) but they're by far the most untrustworthy company in this space, even if the hardware wasn't crap.
But here's the most valuable thing to realize, in my opinion: A hardware wallet is not the thing that stores your BTC; the thing that stores your BTC is your seed phrase. Any electronic device can fail on its own - there will probably not be many HW wallets made this year that will still be working in 50 years. But seed phrases written down on paper (or stainless steel) and stored correctly can last thousands of years. Think of a HW wallet as a temporary device for transferring funds into or out of your actual wallet.

So if the main argument for BTC is just dollar depreciation, why should it continue to outperform classic stores of value such as gold 10 years down the line?
My point with bringing up taxes and the fact you do everything is fiat was just that BTC isn’t actually used as a currency, just a store of value. And there’s no reason why any store of value should outperform another but such outrageous amounts over the long term when the driving factor behind both is just the depreciation of a currency

Bitcoin "treasury companies" and fiat-minded "financial products" are to this cycle as "yield" (e.g. Celsius, BlockFi et al.) was to the last cycle.
You get hate from MSTR an MSTY fanbois for pointing out the inevitable, just like you got a lot of hate from yield-chasers four years ago for pointing out the inevitable. Some things never change.
After you get burned, don't get jaded and become a buttcoiner. Just 100% BTC cold storage and chill. Better if you learn this before getting burned, but some people need to touch the hot stove. That's okay.

A device that you plan to store thousands or tens of thousands of dollars worth of BTC on is not something to cheap out on. Get one of the reputable brands, they're mostly over $150. (if you find a source that lists Ledger as a reputable brand, disregard that source)
Personally I prefer Coldcards, but trezors, Jades, and bitboxes are reasonable options too.

My house went from $800K to $1.6M. And yes I feel fortunate. But the biggest dumbass move was using my 2012 bonus of $75K to pay off graduate student loan and credit card debt.
Or even to pay off my Mastercard of $10,000. That same $10,000 of BTC at $13.50 at that time is $84MM now!!!! And it had gone up 193% in one year already…

It depends on the coin you're holding. ADA holders get the biggest chunk at 50% of the entire airdrop. BTC holders get 20% and then ETH, XRP, SOL, BNB, AVAX, and BAT holders get 5% each. There are 24 billion NIGHT tokens being distributed in total from the airdrop

Self transfers are non taxable. You just have to give up that the wallet belongs to you. If you think BTC is going up forever one option could be to self transfer but not declare it as a self transfer. sell. pay capital gains tax now. and now you dont own bitcoin..
