Human greed and perpetuity.
As long as some people think that BTC is valuable, it will continue to have a market for people buying and selling it trying to maintain or grow their buying power. And BTC, unlike say stock in a bankrupt company, won't go anywhere. It can't goto zero because there will always be people who value it in excess of zero, and the network will exist until the millions of people globally running nodes decide to stop, which isn't really likely.

I find it odd no one has directly said it's 0.1 of Bitcoin that is commonly said one should get to that could change your life in the future NOT 0.01 of BTC. LOL

Everyone is predicting we're entered or have just entered the bear market, news flash we were already in bear the last year, if we're red on the year how can you call that "bull"?
The reason we didn't get massive corrections is opportunity cost and relative correction, everything else pumped while BTC dumped or crabbed that's still a correction that is relative and has a huge opportunity cost + the overall crypto market especially for BTC is a lot more mature with ETFs and institutions so don't expect -80% corrections unless something massively breaks (like USDT or Binance etc.)
Now this doesn't predict whether 2026 is a continuation of the bear or a return to the bull idk but usually bear lasts 1 year.

Hardware wallets are the safest, along with an air-gapped Linux PC dedicated to wallet generation (though the former is far easier to set up).
However, you don't need a hardware wallet to self-custody your own coins when you're just getting started.
As far as operating systems come, iOS and Android (if up-to-date) are pretty safe. I would recommend getting either the Blockstream BTC Wallet or BlueWallet apps and withdraw your Bitcoin to one of these.
The main thing is getting them off an exchange. "Not your keys, not your coins!"

>safest option to store on the exchange or would I need a hardware wallet?
Bitcoin is P2P currency. Storing bitcoins on exchanges, banks or web wallets makes you insecure and makes the whole ecosystem insecure indirectly by centralizing bitcoin.
Bitcoin is a bearer asset with ~immutable txs unlike fiat. This means that internal or external thieves prefer to target what they can take and won't be reversed like digital fiat. Having centralized exchanges and banks store BTC makes it a desirable target for these attacks.
There are privacy concerns with storing your bitcoins with third parties
You are exposed to tax theft, asset forfeiture theft , civil theft
You are exposed to exit theft
You are exposed to the exchange refusing to support a split asset where they steal it , throw it away, or delaying a payout causing you to lose opportunity costs and profit
You place Bitcoin as a whole under more systemic risk by tempting exchanges to use fractional reserve banking and giving them too much influence
You potentially reduce the probability that your investment will appreciate in value because no exchanges are doing provable audits and they might be fractional. The more Bitcoin you personally control the more likely it will appreciate in value.
Many exchanges will legally steal(as forfeited property) your Bitcoin if you simply neglect to log into the exchange for some time.

**Never store larger amounts of bitcoins in a web wallet, custodian , or exchange . You own 0 bitcoins if you do not control your private keys.**

Been researching bitcoin for a few years now aswell as stocks. Used to own bitcoin about 4/5 years ago (not that much). But decided 2026 my investments are going to be BTC focused. I'm in the UK is Coinbase the safest option to store on the exchange or would I need a hardware wallet? Looking to do recurring buys of £300 a month. Thanks

BitBox (BTC onyl edition) is working flawlessly for me but Trezor is also a solid solution. Can't say anything about strike using Binance and [dca.bot](http://dca.bot) for recurring dynamic buys!

Because exchanges want you to hold BTC on their exchange, they put withdrawal fee + network fee on top of it.
Essentially if you put money into exchange for "bitcoin", what actually happens is Binance "owes" you that amount of bitcoin. Just like how you put money into bank, it is not really yours, and they are free to do whatever they want to do with that capital as long as it is lawful. It is on every exchange interest to make their customer's capital stay on their platform.
This is why I use other "exchange" that allows me to set daily recurring buy without fee (after certain transactions) and allow me to send to my wallet without extra fee (starting from 75000 sats and longer wait time).

When you send your mixed coins to an exchange, you might get a higher risk score and have to provide more details about your source of funds. In the worst case they might just close your account if they think you are too risky.
Might be a good idea or bad, depends on the situation. If I had a big amount of BTC, I would likely mix to smaller amounts before paying to merchants, otherwise the merchant might see that I have a lot of BTC which is not nice. However exchanges have legal requirements to know your SoF so there is not much to do there.

Why is the BTC network fee on Binance higher? I clicked Send and put in my BlueWallet address and although they see you only pay the network fee, the fee is higher than it currently says on the mempool site which is supposed to be less than a dollar. It also says minimum amount is 10 USD worth of Bitcoin. I wanted to do a test with like a dollar first to see if everything is fine
