The company's earnings came in at $172.1 million, or $9.33 per share. This compares with $126.4 million, or $6.83 per share, in last year's third quarter.

Excluding items, Group 1 Automotive, Inc reported adjusted earnings of $177.5 million or $9.62 per share for the period.

The company's revenue for the quarter rose 16.7% to $3.5 billion from $3.0 billion last year.
