14:10 Tuesday, October 5, 2021 (RTTNews.com) - After announcing that it will add about 5 million hours of payable work-hours during the holiday months in its schedule, big-box retailers Target Corporation (TGT) said on Tuesday that it will be increasing its hourly take-home by $2 on selective weekends during the months of November and December.

The pay bump will come into effect on all weekends from November 20 through December 19. December 24, a Friday, and December 26, a Sunday, are also going to offer more pay to the employees. While the offer will be applicable to all hourly workers of the retailers, a few service teams from the company's headquarters in Minneapolis, Minnesota will also reap the benefits. Apart from the workers, the members of the supply chain will also receive additional payments. Depending on the location of the outlets, the supply-chain members will be eligible to claim $2 extra per hour between October 10 and December 18.

The Chief HR officer of Target, Melissa Kremer, sent a note to the employees saying, "This is just one more way of expressing our deep gratitude for your significant contributions. You have shown up consistently for our guests and one another with a tremendous amount of care and we know this busy holiday season will be no different."

Target slashed the number of new recruits during the holiday season to 100,000 this year from 130,000 it required in 2019 and 2020. As the country continues to deal with labor shortages across the board, the company is going to rely heavily on the existing roster to deal with the impending supply-chain shortage during the holiday season. The company is also looking to buff up its supply chain with an additional 30,000 employees. The supply chain has been under relentless pressure lately due to the increasing number of consumers opting for Target's Same Day delivery service despite turning up at the stores.

Kremer added, "This team continues to be at the heart of our strategyThank you for the many ways you bring joy to all families and for all you do to make Target a place where we can care, grow and win together."

Mark Schindele, Target's chief stores' officer, said, "Our store teams continue to step up to serve our guests and communities when they're counting on us most, time and time again. They are at the heart of our winning strategy, which is why Target continues to invest in providing training, consistent hours and schedules and support, to take care of them as they deliver for guests and power our business."

In August, the retailers announced that Target will open four new locations in Dallas, Houston, Philadelphia, and Georgia to support its online supply system.
