02:34 Monday, July 12, 2021 (RTTNews.com) - New York-headquartered IMAX Corporation (IMAX) on Sunday said it grossed $14.5 million in box office for the weekend on the strength of a $12 million global debut for Marvel Studios' "Black Widow."

The film, the first new movie in Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, collected $7.2 million in North America alone. It earned 9 percent of the domestic box office and a per-screen average of $19,000.

Eleven countries including Brazil, Austria, Germany and South Korea set records at a weekend during pandemic with the first new Marvel Studios' theatrical release since 2019.

The movie directed by Cate Shortland has broken domestic pandemic-era records for biggest opening weekend box office, indexing and per-screen average since March 2020.
