12:56 Tuesday, July 6, 2021 (RTTNews.com) - IT distribution company Synnex Corp. (SNX) on Tuesday said that it was aware of instances where outsiders made attempts to gain access to customer applications within the Microsoft cloud environment, by using its applications. The company said that these actions could be related to a recent cybersecurity attacks of Managed Service Providers, or MSPs.

According to reports, there was a massive ransomware attack on the software supply chain of more than 1,000 businesses recently and Synnex was revealed to have been one of the affected companies. The hackers were identified as the Russia-linked ransomware group REvil, who were accused of hacking giant meatpacker JBS SA in June. Synnex said that while it offers many services through its overall IT distribution business, including supporting Microsoft cloud applications, it is not an MSP in the context as being reported in recent reports. The company said that it has done a complete review of the attack, in partnership with Microsoft and a leading third-party cybersecurity firm, after news of the cyberattacks. The company's internal and external environments were intact throughout the period of attack, it added. Commenting on the developments, President and CEO, Dennis Pork, said, "We are a long-term distribution partner for Microsoft and along with them, responded with the requisite urgency to address the recent attacks and to limit the potential activities of these bad actors. We will remain vigilant and focused on the security of our organization."
