Shares of membership warehouse club chain BJ's Wholesale Club Holdings, Inc. (BJ) are down more than 8% Thursday morning despite reporting better-than-expected first-quarter results.

10:31 Thursday, May 20, 2021 (RTTNews.com) - Shares of membership warehouse club chain BJ's Wholesale Club Holdings, Inc. (BJ) are down more than 8% Thursday morning despite reporting better-than-expected first-quarter results.

However, the company did not provide any outlook citing the prevailing uncertainty related to the pandemic.

Laura Felice, Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer, BJ's Wholesale Club said, "Given the level of uncertainty associated with the evolution of the pandemic and consumer behavior, fiscal 2021 remains difficult to forecast."

Net income in the first quarter decreased to $81.58 million or $0.59 per share from $95.73 million or $0.69 per share a year ago.

Excluding items, earnings were $0.72 per share, that beat the average estimate of analysts polled by Thomson Reuters at $0.57 per share.

Revenue for the quarter increased 1.9% to $3.87 billion from $3.80 billion last year. The consensus estimate was for $3.62 billion.

BJ shares are at $44.36 currently. It was trading between $28.84 and $50.18 in the past 52 weeks.
