The company, on Tuesday, reported that its Q1 net income rose to $338.2 million or $0.54 per share from $310.6 million or $0.49 per share last year. Excluding items, adjusted earnings were $340.4 million or $0.54 per share for the period. Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected earnings of $0.47 per share. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.

Revenues grew 8% to $1.22 billion from $1.13 billion last year. Analysts had a consensus revenue estimate of $1.16 billion.
