India's consumer price inflation moderated in January on easing food price growth, figures from the statistics ministry showed Friday.

07:36 Friday, February 12, 2021 (RTTNews.com) - India's consumer price inflation moderated in January on easing food price growth, figures from the statistics ministry showed Friday.

Consumer prices rose 4.06 percent on a yearly basis in January, slower than the 4.59 percent increase seen in December. The expected rate was 4.45 percent.

At the same time, food price inflation eased notably to 1.89 percent from 3.41 percent a month ago.

The Reserve Bank of India forecast consumer price inflation of 5.2 percent in the fourth quarter of the fiscal year 2020-21.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices dropped 0.64 percent and food prices were down 2.68 percent.
