Kalpataru Projects wins major gas pipeline order worth over ₹4,000 Crore in UAE
Every gas pipeline that crosses a desert or a coastline starts as a contractor's plan long before it carries a single molecule of fuel. Engineering, procurement and construction firms handle the full job, from design and steel sourcing to welding, testing and handover. Energy projects of this kind are usually large, technical and slow to award, so the firms that win them tend to have long track records. It is a business where credibility counts as much as price.
Shares of Kalpataru Projects International Ltd. closed at Rs. 1,373.90, down 1.24 percent from previous close of Rs. 1,391.20. The stock opened at Rs. 1,420.00, reaching an intraday high of Rs. 1,424.80 and low of Rs. 1,372.10. The company currently has a market capitalization of Rs. 23,498 crores.
What's the News?
Kalpataru Projects International Limited (KPIL) has received a Letter of Award for the EPC of a gas pipeline project in the United Arab Emirates. The company has classified the order as "Major", which it defines as an estimated value of over Rs 4,000 crore. It has not disclosed the exact contract value, and the order was received in the normal course of business, as intimated to the exchanges on 28 September 2026.
Managing Director and CEO Manish Mohnot called it a prestigious international project that reinforces the company's track record in global oil and gas. He said the win reflects its technical expertise, operational excellence and ability to scale operations abroad. Earlier this fiscal, the company had said orders worth Rs 13,219 crore were already secured in FY27, against a full-year inflow target of Rs 30,000 crore. This award adds to that tally.
Financial & Business Analysis
Looking at the quarterly results of Kalpataru Projects International Ltd., the company’s consolidated revenue increased by 4.81 percent YoY, from Rs. 6,187.52 crore in Q1 FY26 to Rs. 6,485.17 crore in Q1 FY27, and decreased by 17.04 percent QoQ from Rs. 7,814.69 crore in Q4 FY26.
In Q1 FY27 Kalpataru Projects International Ltd.’s consolidated net profit increased by 45.85 percent YoY, reaching Rs. 311.53 crore compared to Rs. 213.59 crore during the same period last year. As compared to Q4 FY26, the net profit has decreased by 27.66 percent, from Rs. 430.60 crore.
The basic earnings per share stood at Rs. 18.16 as against Rs. 12.51 recorded in the same quarter in the previous year, FY2026.
Power transmission and distribution remains the biggest slice of Kalpataru's order book, followed by buildings and factories. Water, oil and gas, urban infrastructure and railways make up the rest. Oil and gas has been a smaller contributor, and management has said awards in the segment were slow to arrive. A large international pipeline order is therefore a useful step towards balancing a book that leans heavily on one business.
The timing also helps. The order book was already at an all-time high at the end of June, and management has named T&D, buildings and factories, and oil and gas as the businesses driving better profitability. The water business, meanwhile, is holding back on new domestic bids until collections improve. A big oil and gas win gives the company more work to execute in a segment it wants to grow, and it strengthens its case for future Gulf tenders.
Industry Context
The demand for energy infrastructure that supports this order book is strong at home too. India's National Electricity Plan points to a transmission investment opportunity of over Rs 9.15 lakh crore by 2032. The transmission network is expected to grow from 4.85 lakh circuit kilometres in 2024 to 6.48 lakh by 2032, while transformation capacity rises from 1,251 GVA to 2,342 GVA. That is a long runway of lines and substations for EPC players.
Renewables are driving much of this. India aims to add 500 GW of non-fossil capacity by 2030, and the grid has to expand to carry that power. Power transmission EPC in India is forecast to grow from Rs 51,585 crore in 2024 to Rs 99,545 crore by 2030, about 11.58% a year. Contractors with a solid track record and an international footprint are best placed to benefit, and overseas wins like this one add to that footprint.
