Laser Power & Infra wins ₹72.76 Cr POWERGRID contract for transmission line reconductoring
This EPC company has won its first commercial order for HTLS conductors. Power Grid Corporation of India placed the Rs. 72.76 crore order. The company shared the news on October 5, 2026. The win marks a big step for its technology push in power transmission.
Shares of Laser Power & Infra are trading at Rs. 270.85, up 1.15 percent on Tuesday. The stock touched the intraday high of Rs. 273.95 after opening at Rs. 271. The company commands a market capitalization of Rs. 3,801 crore.

What the Order Covers
The contracts cover the supply of High Temperature Low Sag (HTLS) conductors. They also include reconductoring of two existing 132 kV transmission lines. Both lines fall under the North Eastern Region Expansion Scheme-XXIV.
The project spans about 164 circuit-km of current transmission corridors. Laser Power must finish the work within 12 months from the Notification of Award. This is the company's first commercial HTLS supply order. Until now, the technology sat in the development and qualification stage. Now it moves into real execution.
Laser Power gets its HTLS technology through a licence with TS Conductor, USA. However, access alone does not win orders. Firms in this segment must clear product testing, utility qualification and strict execution needs.
The POWERGRID mandate also combines several skills in one job. It covers engineering, manufacturing, supply, installation and commissioning. As a result, the company can take its conductor from the factory floor to the transmission line.
Why HTLS Matters for Transmission Lines
HTLS conductors help utilities carry more power through existing corridors. They also control thermal sag, which is the droop in a line when it heats up. Moreover, the company sees possible gains in conductor efficiency, transmission losses and installation.
This matters most where land and right-of-way limits make new lines hard to build. Utilities can upgrade what already stands instead. Management believes such conductors will slowly change how utilities modernise their networks.
Management View and Wider Strategy
Chairman and Managing Director Deepak Goel called the order a watershed moment. He said nearly 18 months of work went into product development, testing, qualification and execution readiness. In his view, technology access is only the starting point. Utility acceptance and execution skills matter just as much.
He also tied the win to the company's recent entry into underground EHV EPC through the CESC project. Together, he said, these steps move Laser Power beyond a transmission-products maker. The company now aims to act as an integrated technology and EPC partner for India's grid needs. Successful delivery should help Laser Power bid for future HTLS and reconductoring projects.
