Q2 FY27 Financial Performance
The company reported strong financial results for the quarter ended September 30, 2026, with higher revenue, improved operating profitability and lower finance costs.
Net sales increased 23.2% year-on-year to Rs. 2,194 crore in Q2 FY27, compared with Rs. 1,781 crore in Q2 FY26. EBITDA rose 35% to Rs. 447 crore from Rs. 331 crore, while the EBITDA margin improved to 20% from 19%.
Profit before tax increased 115.4% to Rs. 307 crore, while profit after tax surged 118.6% to Rs. 230 crore from Rs. 105 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. Cash profit also increased 76.6% to Rs. 386 crore. These figures indicate that the improvement in profitability was greater than the increase in sales.
Debt Reduction and Financial Position
One of the key developments was the reduction in secured debt outstanding. According to the company’s Q2 FY27 presentation, secured debt declined 34.3% to Rs. 1,518 crore as of September 30, 2026, compared with Rs. 2,310 crore a year earlier.
Finance costs fell 45.2% year-on-year to Rs. 62 crore from Rs. 112 crore, helping support the rise in net profit. The company’s cash and bank balances increased to Rs. 243 crore from Rs. 138 crore, while net worth improved to Rs. 3,316 crore from Rs. 2,574 crore. Lower debt and reduced finance costs could provide greater financial flexibility as the company invests in capacity expansion.

Expansion Plans

On October 1, 2026, it announced financial closure for a new 1.5 million tonnes per annum straight-grate pellet plant, alongside a raw material handling system and associated facilities. The project is estimated to cost Rs. 720 crore, funded through Rs. 540 crore in term debt and Rs. 180 crore from equity and internal accruals. The proposed construction period is 24 months from the first drawdown of term debt, which was yet to occur at the time of the disclosure.
The company has also enhanced its blast furnace capacity from 0.75 million tonnes per annum to 1 million tonnes per annum, increased DRI capacity from 0.27 million tonnes to 0.35 million tonnes per annum, and raised the capacity of its Chhotedongar iron ore mine from 2.95 million tonnes to 6 million tonnes per annum.

The combination of higher profits, lower debt, reduced finance costs and record production strengthens the company’s recent financial performance. However, investors should monitor steel demand and prices, raw material costs, execution of the pellet plant project and whether debt reduction continues alongside expansion spending.
