UP to Build 500-Acre Japan City Near Noida Airport: ₹3,191 Crore Investment, 10,000+ Jobs & Property Price Impact
Uttar Pradesh is set to further strengthen its industrial base with Japan with the proposed Japan City in the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) region. The proposed industrial estate seeks to attract Japanese manufacturers, suppliers and ancillary companies, while new investments valued at ₹3,191 crore indicate an emerging interest among companies in the region.
UP-Japan investment push
The establishment of Japan City is included in the Japanese government's plan to establish Uttar Pradesh as a permanent base for Japanese companies. Over 200 Japanese CEOs, managing directors and industry leaders have participated in the UP-Japan Investment Meet 2026, between August 18-23. The state is looking for investments not only in manufacturing, but semiconductors, electronics, electric mobility, green hydrogen, digital infrastructure, and data centres. Some Japanese companies such as Honda, Yamaha, Denso, Nissin and Toyo Ink already have their presence in UP.
Japan City: project details
The proposed Japan City is spread across 500 acres in Sector 5A of Greater Noida on the Yamuna Expressway under YEIDA. Under this master plan, 70% of the area is to be dedicated for industrial purposes, 12% for residential,13% for commercial and 55 institutional facilities.
The project is planned to be a fully-fledged industrial town for Japanese companies, which covers manufacturing, automobiles, electronics and advanced manufacturing technology sectors. Its proximity to the Noida International Airport and Yamuna Expressway is likely to facilitate industrial logistics and exports . The ₹3,191-crore investments reported refer to the investments of Escorts Kubota and Minda Corporation alone. The official final budget of the project has not been announced yet.
Announced Investments in Japan City, YEIDA
Escorts Kubota is establishing its new manufacturing plant over an area of 154 acres at Sector 10, YEIDA with an investment of approximately ₹2,025 crore and job potential of over 3,800. The facility is planned to manufacture tractors, farm machines and construction equipment, allied products, for both India and export markets. The first phase is expected to add capacity of up to 60,000 tractors per year, and 15,000 construction-equipment units.
Minda Corporation: Minda will be investing INR 1166 crore in two manufacturing projects in YEIDA in Sector 10 and Sector 24 with around 6440 employment targets. The new plants will produce ignition switch-cum-steering locks, mechatronic components, and wiring harnesses and connecting systems to augment the company's automotive-component manufacturing portfolio in the Noida-Greater Noida belt.
The two businesses account for a total of ₹3,191 crore of announced investments and over 10,000 possible jobs, which is the first manufacturing unit around which the proposed Japan City is being built.

The Japanese manufacturing system
The proposed Japan City is designed to create a clustered manufacturing ecosystem, rather than simply housing individual factories. Automobile, auto component, electronics, semiconductors, engineering and advanced manufacturing companie s from Japan could establish facilities with suppliers and ancillary businesses. The development could also foster R&D, skill development, logistics and commercial facilities, resulting in a more integrated industrial base. Its proximity to the Noida International Airport and Yamuna Expressway is likely to bolster its connections with the domestic and export markets.
Why YEIDA is the strategic location
Japanese companies will have direct access to the Noida International Airport as the proposed Japan City will be only 3km away. It is expected to benefit semiconductor and electronics manufacturing cluster and data centre developments in the surrounding YEIDA region to provide opportunities for linkages in the supply chain . The Yamuna Expressway will offer road connectivity to the larger Delhi NCR market and the emerging industrial eco-system will cater to manufacturing, logistic and export needs.
What the Japan City could bring to YEIDA
The project may pave the way for YEIDA to shift its focus from drawing in individual factories to creating an entire Japanese manufacturing cluster. The government would integrate suppliers, ancillary manufacturers, technology partners and skilled employees into the same ecosystem of Japanese businesses, with the aim of enhancing supply-chain integration and facilitating technology transfer. The wider UP-Japan Investments are focusing on the automotive, electronics, semiconductors, advanced manufacturing, green hydrogen and digital infrastructure sectors.
What it means for the local economy
The multiplier effect can be created within the YEIDA-Jewar industrial belt by the Japan City. In addition to manufacturing jobs, there is potential for demand from auto-component suppliers, logistics and warehousing, industrial services, housing and commercial facilities. The current land prices in YEIDA range between ₹5,500 to ₹9,000 per sq.ft. The land prices, rents can rise with the rising growth and demand.
Conclusion
The proposed 500 acre ‘Japan City' is expected to further consolidate YEIDA as a Japanese manufacturing hub with fresh investments of ₹3,191 crore and employment opportunities of more than 10,000 . The project is well connected with the airport and expressway, and manufacturers, suppliers and ancillary industries may be drawn to the area.
