Kothari Industrial Corp Stock in Focus After Bagging ₹24.93 Cr Order to Provide School Breakfast in Tamil Nadu
Feeding schoolchildren has become one of the biggest catering jobs in India, and it is increasingly going to organised operators. A city needs someone who can cook at a central kitchen, pack the portions before sunrise and get them to many schools on time, day after day. That is a very different task from running a canteen, and civic bodies are looking for vendors with the scale and discipline to do it.
Shares of Kothari Industrial Corporation Ltd . were trading at Rs. 145.94, up 1.06 percent from previous close of Rs. 144.41. The stock opened at Rs. 145.00, reaching an intraday high of Rs. 154.85 and low of Rs. 143.96. The company currently has a market capitalization of Rs. 1,572 crores.
What's the News?
Kothari Industrial Corporation Limited (KICL) has informed BSE that it received a Letter of Acceptance from Tiruppur City Municipal Corporation, dated 17 September 2026 and received on 21 September. The company will provide food services under the Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Morning Breakfast Scheme to school children. The food will come from the common kitchen at the Anupparpalayam Government Higher Secondary School premises. It will serve the specified Corporation and government school premises in Wards 11, 31, 47 and 41. The company's bid dated 3 September was the one accepted.
The contract is worth Rs 24,93,35,076, or about Rs 24.93 crore. It is priced at Rs 9.08 per packet, and the value is the approximate three-year cost for school working days. By simple division, that is roughly 2.75 crore packets. KICL has to furnish the security deposit within seven days of receiving the LOA and sign the agreement within 15 days. The company says the promoters have no interest in the Corporation and that this is not a related-party transaction.
Financial & Business Analysis
Looking at the quarterly results of Kothari Industrial Corporation Ltd., the company’s consolidated revenue increased by 33.78 percent YoY, from Rs. 39.51 crore in Q1 FY26 to Rs. 52.42 crore in Q1 FY27, and increased by 17.79 percent QoQ from Rs. 45.55 crore in Q4 FY26.
In Q1 FY27 Kothari Industrial Corporation Ltd.’s consolidated net loss increased by 751.83 percent YoY, reaching Rs. (16.27) crore compared to Rs. (1.91) crore during the same period last year. As compared to Q4 FY26, the net loss has increased by 15.64 percent, from Rs. (14.07) crore. The basic earnings per share stood at Rs. (1.51) as against Rs. (0.20) recorded in the same quarter in the previous year, FY2026.
KICL began in fertilisers, but it has leased out its old factory, and today's business is a patchwork of services. It runs material handling for railways, catering for municipalities and the Una Villa restaurant and bakery. It has also made newer moves into drones, footwear and design education. On recent evidence, institutional catering is becoming the segment that brings in the biggest contracts. This single award is about twice the six municipal breakfast contracts announced in August combined, and nearly six times the largest of them.
The company announced roughly Rs 39.5 crore of wins in about a month, by our count, including the earlier municipal contracts and a Rs 2.54 crore material handling order from ICF. One tracker put its order book at above Rs 35 crore before this award, so this order is a large addition to a small base. A three-year government-backed contract also brings steady work for a while. The fixed Rs 9.08 rate means food costs and working capital will decide how well it goes. The timing needs watching too, since one report says the scheme's expansion is on hold in Tiruppur district until the model code for the 6 October by-poll ends.
Industry Overview
The breakfast scheme has grown very quickly. It began in 2022 as a pilot for 1.14 lakh children in 1,545 government schools. The expansion to Classes 6 to 8, set to launch on 22 September, adds about 15.30 lakh students across 15,454 government and aided schools. The state has added Rs 217.63 crore this year, taking the scheme's budget to Rs 724 crore. Counting the expansion, coverage is put at nearly 34.48 lakh students. Urban bodies are running their share through integrated kitchens in 2,150 schools.
The national picture points the same way. PM POSHAN has Rs 12,750 crore for 2026-27, about 20% more than last year's revised estimate, and covers nearly 11.2 crore children in government and aided schools. One estimate has India's wider catering services market at about $12.45 billion in 2025 and rising to $19.14 billion by 2031, a growth rate of about 7.4% a year. Welfare-linked meal schemes are a steady source of volume for caterers that can handle government tenders.
