4 Major Banks Offering Flexi RDs: How Are They Better Than Regular RDs?
A Top-Up or Flexi RD is the perfect hassle-free option to save a Diwali or performance bonus without the complexity of stocks or mutual funds. Unlike a regular RD that locks you into a strict fixed monthly payment, a Flexi RD gives you the freedom to deposit extra cash into the same account whenever you receive a financial windfall.
A Recurring Deposit or RD requires you to save a fixed amount monthly for a set tenure, while a Top-Up or Flexi RD allows you to deposit additional money whenever you have extra funds. This additional amount earns interest based on bank rules, meaning your total maturity amount grows based on how much you add, when you deposit it, and your interest rate. This flexibility makes Flexi RDs ideal for anyone with irregular monthly income or fluctuating savings.

Top-Up RD vs Regular RD: A Simple Example
Suppose you invest ₹5,000 every month for 36 months in an Axis Bank RD at 6.50% p.a. A regular RD would keep your monthly contribution fixed, while the Dream Builder RD lets you add extra money through top-ups. Now assume the Flexi RD investor adds ₹20,000 in the 12th month and another ₹20,000 in the 24th month.
