One of the best posts I've read here lately.
Morningstar sums up the risks "Alternative channels for sending money, such as cellphones, could cut out money transfer companies like Western Union."
On the other hand, "Western Union is the largest player, by far, in an industry where size confers significant benefits."
With a market cap of only $2 1/2 billion I could see a big company like META, GOOG or even WMT acquiring WU to expand its payment capabilities.

Dividends are taxed (although to what degree varies by country) and come out of the stock price. The idea of "more dividends = better" often leads people to buy into names where there's a risk that that dividend is unsustainable and/or the stock can't outgrow the yield and the stock price just erodes over time.
A portfolio that emphasizes dividends also probably doesn't have a lot of growth. I've seen some younger people on here over time basically invest in the manner of an older person - JNJ, KO, WMT, etc type dividend stocks - and that will provide dividends but not the kind of growth needed for longer-term goals.
You should prioritize fundamentals in every name you invest in. There have been so many instances on here over time where someone goes, "look at the yield!" and it's clear that they're only paying attention to that. If someone can't make a case for the business itself, how do they know that a high yield can be sustained?
So I definitely wouldn't have dividends be the sole focus/priority. Find great companies that happen to offer a dividend? Fine but not yield for the sake of yield/"yield chasing."

Please don’t take things so personally. What was the reason behind the classification of qualified, non qualified dividends, long term capital gains, short term capital gains and ordinary income? For tax purposes. A dividend is a tax classification. Ordinary income is a tax classification. I have a much narrower interpretation of a dividend ETF than you do. As I stated before, people use the term dividend and distribution interchangeably. Companies, for the sake of simplicity, use the terms interchangeably. I disagree. Funds like MSTY, TSLY, CONY are commonly referred to as dividend ETF. They are covered call ETFs, not dividend ETFs. Investors hear that MSTY has a dividend yield of 135% and pour money into them thinking their “dividend” is the same as dividends given out by PG, JPM, WMT or KO. That they carry the same risk. That’s why I am a stickler when I see people calling certain ETFs dividend ETF. It can be very misleading. The risk of a BDC is not the same as for a company in the S&P 500 index. No matter how long you hold a BDC the money they give out will never be a qualified dividend. Investors hold BDCs and at the end of the year they receive a 1099 which says they received ordinary income and they don’t why since they owned the BDC for more than a year so it should be qualified.
