Correct me if I am wrong, but it seems like the Golden Eagle might be the only widely-circulated gold bullion that isn’t 100% gold these days. So what’s the purpose of buying it? Does it have any extra benefits like Tax exemption or simply because the law stipulates the U.S. Government to mint it?

Distribution ETFs put gains into your cash pot, accumulating ETFs reinvest profits and introduces the power of compounding. Look at FTSE all-world or other global ETFs. The S&P500 has historical stability and proves to always recover after recessions and downturns, but a strong portfolio must be diversified. Always [dollar-cost average](https://www.compounded-capital.com/p/what-is-dollar-cost-averaging) no matter the price and watch it grow.

No you have misunderstood.
For a LISA, you can put in £4k per year, and the goverment gives you 25% bonus (so £1k) so you now have a total of £5k invested into whatever you want, for your example the S+P500.
They are actually a fantastic product to use for buying a house, and even as a secondary pension (depending on your situation)

> If the U.S. fails to arrange trade deals with some nations by the deadline, country-specific tariffs would take effect after midnight on July 9, substantially hiking duties on billions of dollar in foreign imports from all corners of the globe.

To: The Esteemed Donald J. Trump, Former President of the United States of America
Subject: **A Noble Request for an Executive Order of Epic Patriotism**
Dear Mr. Trump,
In the spirit of boundless admiration for your unmatched commitment to American greatness, we humbly and sarcastically submit a modest proposal:
Please, issue an Executive Order mandating that all Americans every proud, freedom-loving, bald-eagle-saluting citizen must purchase only goods that are **100% Made in America**.
Yes, let the coffee be grown in Kansas, the silk woven in Nebraska, and the microchips handcrafted in the sacred garages of Michigan. Who needs global supply chains when we have the boundless ingenuity of Uncle Sam?
Meanwhile, the rest of the world, those less blessed nations, shall continue the unenviable task of making fair, mutually beneficial trade agreements with one another. After all, global cooperation is such a novel concept, isn’t it?
So please, Mr. Trump, do the patriotic thing: wall off the market, ban all imports, and turn every American backyard into a factory. If anyone can make this bold vision a reality, surely it is you.
With deepest mock-respect and the highest degree of economic satire,
The Rest of the World
P.S. We’ll be over here, trading freely, growing economically, and enjoying mangoes in winter.

We've all read the headlines, that the S&P is pushing to new highs, but if you as a foreign investor look at your portfolio performance you are rather puzzled why those new highs didn't materialize in your account. The reason is the weakening USD compared to other currencies (for me €) which is hurting our performances. Scientific literature always warned, that currency translation risk is a real risk and its a reason, why some markets are avoided by most investors. What I ask myself is, how imminent this USD to other currency risk is. I don't want to start a polizical discussion, but this is interconnected, so I have to mention it here. The policies (tariffs, NATO etc.) and the BBB are undermining the trust in thr US and increasing the debt ceyling at the same time, so we have an explanation for the recent sharp decline (even though we are still in a reasonable range historically) but the question arises, if and how long this trend will keep going, because at the current rate it is impacting foreign investments by a lot. Of course, this trend could also reverse and increase performance, but it manifested itself as a real factor to think about.

hi OP! wondering if you have opened your pharmacy?
We just opened ours last year and next month is our anniversary, unfortunately it's not doing so well. :(
The economy is really bad. Taxes and local government fees have also doubled since last year. It's also hard to get a good price point for your meds without cheap distributors/supplier. And you have to maintain a really low price if you don't want to lose out against bigger pharmacy franchises.
P.S. Senior Citizens discount - just take it as a loss and move on nothing really you can do much about it.

eps happening in India and not in the US. So let’s get ruthless and specific:
🏦 Key Differences Between US and Indian Markets (That Prevent Expiry Manipulation)
AspectUS MarketIndian MarketEffectIndex Derivatives SettlementCash-settled using index value derived from full-day VWAP or real-time calculations.Cash-settled using final 30-minute average of cash market (spot) index.Creates a narrow "attack window" in India — easy to push index via a few large trades near 3:00–3:30 pm on expiry day.Derivative–Cash Volume RatioOptions volume is huge, but cash volumes are also deep, especially for index components.FnO volumes are 10x cash. Bank Nifty’s index stocks have low float, easy to push around. In India, you can manipulate the index with relatively little capital.Surveillance InfrastructureSEC/CFTC/FINRA monitor quote-stuffing, price dislocations, and inter-market latency abuse using co-located servers and AI.SEBI has decent surveillance, but poor real-time analytics and delayed enforcement. In the US, detection is fast and action is brutal (fines, bans, jail).Market MicrostructureMultiple exchanges compete, but all follow Reg NMS (National Market System), which prevents dislocation between venues. Two main exchanges (NSE, BSE) with little price arbitrage discipline. Market depth data is patchy.Easier in India to move prices with a few targeted trades.Settlement TimingT+1 or T+2, but derivatives expire smoothly with real-time index calculation.F&O expiry price = 3–3:30 pm spot market average, creating a predictable exploit window. In India, expiry itself becomes the “event” to target.
🔑 Why Can’t India Do What the US Does?
Let’s break this into technical, regulatory, and political reasons:
1. 🧮 Settlement Mechanism Reform is Pending
NSE’s index derivative expiry still relies on a 30-min spot average. This is outdated.
US uses real-time index snapshots and VWAPs over the whole day, reducing manipulation windows.
👉 Fix: Move to VWAP-based or real-time expiry — SEBI and NSE have been discussing this, but haven’t implemented it yet.
2. 🧾 Enforcement Power & Speed is Weak
In the US, the CFTC fined JP Morgan $920M for spoofing.
Jane Street, Citadel, Tower Research operate under the constant fear of detection.
In India:
Enforcement is slow, and penalties are retrospective, not preventative.
Even co-location scam (NSE 2010s) had zero jail time despite massive damage.
👉 Fix: Give SEBI more real-time surveillance tools and make penalties sharper and immediate — not 2 years later.
3. 📊 Cash Market Liquidity Is Thin
In US: S&P 500, Nasdaq-100 constituents are extremely liquid — you need billions to move prices.
In India: Even index stocks like PNB or Bandhan Bank have thin order books during expiry.
👉 Fix: Push for greater institutional participation in spot markets and better market-making obligations.
4. 🪙 Derivatives Are Too Easy to Trade
In India, low margin requirements, no position limits for prop desks, and weekly expiry options make it easy to:
Take large naked bets.
Move spot just a little to reap big gains on options.
👉 Fix: Stricter position limits, especially near expiry + linked margin rules for directional positions.
🧠 TL;DR – Why It Happens Here, Not There
In the US, you can’t bend the system without a billion-dollar crowbar — and you’ll get caught. In India, you only need ₹50–100 cr, and the door’s wide open… and nobody’s watching in real time.
✅ What India Should Do (Practically):
Change expiry settlement method to real-time or VWAP.
Tighten position limits near expiry for prop firms.
Enhance real-time surveillance using algo detection (SEBI has no equivalent of FINRA’s CAT).
Publish full-market depth and audit logs (not just post-event PDFs).
Fast-track enforcement — 30-day window for manipulation penalties.

Put a significant portion of your money into an **S&P 500 index fund** or a broad-market mutual fund. These funds offer diversification by pooling money to buy many stocks or bonds, reducing risk compared to individual stocks.

You're overcomplicating things. If you're young and have a steady income, 100% equities is fine. The S&P 500 already gives you plenty of diversification across sectors.
Leveraged ETFs like SSO have higher fees and decay issues long-term. not worth it. your original plan is solid if you have 10+ years before you need the money.

Depends on your goals really. The Cash ISA is great and I personally use it for consistent high interest rates. There are thousands of ETFs to choose from, and it's probably a good idea to diversify, as the S&P500 is a representation of the US market and the US market only.

Wherever and however you choose to invest, always [dollar-cost average](https://www.compounded-capital.com/p/what-is-dollar-cost-averaging) to take advantage of compounding.

Vacation fund is savings account at the bank. We do frequent weekend trips, so interest from HYSA is so marginal I don’t even bother.
Emergency fund is in a money market. Car fund is invested in brokerage straight S&P 500. We just upgraded vehicles don’t need a new one for 5yr, so I invest $500/mo to be ready for the next.

I should have clarified, by “ETF” I was referring to indexes as many folks blindly just dump money in the S&P 500 and/or total market.

Depends usually people lower volatility with age. DGRO is pretty decent for growth and some dividend. If you want just some basic growth then VTI is essentially a more diversified S&P500. I personally use gold as a hedge for market corrections and bear markets. Bonds seem useless when anyone can get a HYSA at a bank that's FDIC insured. I'd recommend consulting a CFP.
