When EB Games rebranded to GameStop, I collected all the EB stuff I could (gift/reward cards, shopping bags, etc). We're going full circle lol.

he brought back the EB Games, brand name.
but that's completely separate from GME (other than the $$$ GME got for selling the stores to him).
i wonder how well EB games will fare?
it'll be interesting to see how they do.

Gamestop still owns EB Games New Zealand and Australia. Both having always been profitable.
They probably weren't subject to BCG attacks.

EB Games doesn't have any nostalgic value. It was a re-brand from it's original name Electronics Boutique, that's the one I remembered as a kid but heck, the store, shopping experience, and brand colors were the exact same as GameStop I could never tell the difference.

To be fair I have absolutely no basis to even start a valuation let alone a fair one. It's called a sale, but idk I just look at it as closing down the entire Canadian operations to get the stores losing money off the books. I'd be surprised if it's in the hundreds of millions and wouldn't be surprised at all if it's under $100mil, or even "free" so long as GameStop is not incurring any costs related to this transition.
On the plus side, the new (old?) EB Games continues to be an employer, folks keep their jobs or new staff is brought in, but either way you slice it, jobs, people getting paid.

EB Games Canada is not GameStop anymore, buying from them does not support GameStop. Talking about the sale of the division is fine, but we are not going to provide free advertising for the new owner of EB Games Canada.

They sold more than 185 stores to EB Games Canada, which will then rebrand them all to... EB Games Canada.

The sale was for GameStop stores that are being rebranded to EB games. I did not see anything about an EB stores or brand sale. What about Australia?

Having done most my shopping at EB Games and seeing them be branded as GameStop for only a little while, I can say that there isn’t generally huge enough demand in Canada to make any meaningful sales impact where GameStop is looking to go. Any revenue add GS 🇨🇦 added was probably minimal and any expenses GS 🇨🇦 contributed were probably disproportionately larger than the 🇺🇸 counterparts.
